Jesse Hogan re-signs to end of Season 2019

I'm happy that Hogan has re-signed, but there's one thing that has always bothered me.

Whenever Hogan is interviewed, he is always spoken about as if he is outside the club.  I hate the idea that the club needs to become successful for him (or anyone else) to stay, when in fact he is a key driver in determining if we do become successful.

Hopefully Goodwin can create the buy-in and belief from all the players that you see at clubs like the Western Bulldogs.

Agree with this, a lot we don't know about JH, that said now he has time on his plate, and with us, for the impressionable years, as i used to call them. MFC will do this i'm thinking.

He has resisted the pull back home and reportedly accepted $1million less than was on offer elsewhere. Sounds like a buy in to me.

I wouldn't rely on the figures reported by Ralph, given that he reports that our premiership drought is now up to 62 years - "Hogan says he has aspirations to remain at Melbourne past his current deal, eager for that premiership that has eluded the Demons for so long — at 62 years now the longest premiership drought".

Clearly numbers aren't his strong-suit, but 2016 - 1964 = 52

It again highlights Ralph's quality as a journalist, imo.

really hope the speculation re cripps begins now.

Langdon is on holidays. Hardie and Hagdorn were on tonight and talk about retracting. They were saying it was always going to be difficult and he had another year on his contract anyway. Hagdorn tried the old line of " I understand Melbourne offered him a significantly longer contract of 4 to 5 years which Hogan knocked back and decided to sign for 2 years".

He has no idea it's only a couple of weeks ago they were talking about Meth Coast also having an interest and could a trade be done this year. In their defence most of their audience are Meth Coast fans who only remember things said about their own team

The Tom Boyd argument only arose here because of a simpleton questioning why I would reference Boyd's ruck-skills 3 weeks or so ago.  This was never Hogan v. Boyd as like-for-like players.  This was TGR again highlighting the value of a MDMT and mainly questioning why the average Melbourne supporter was under-rating Boyd and the Bulldogs in general, if you look at my posts about them (Bulldogs) over the past 18 months.  Many supporters here were perplexed as to why they beat us; I never thought we were in their league. 

 

I rarely think a premiership coach is the best coach in the league.  Simpletons do that.  For once, I will gladly join them.  The first inkling was when he didn't pick a ruckman to face Sandilands in 2015.  Left the recent AA ruckman in the VFL.  He has brains as well as balls.  Rare combo.

I wasn't asking about Boyd. One hit wonder thus far, although in a game that cements his "legend" for all time.

 

You said some unkind things about Hogan, and I was wondering what your thoughts were on him re-signing, given that you sold all of his stocks at a bargain price.

Really looking forward to the future now.

You know what I am really looking forward to?

Our supporter base under the age of 14 being able to go to school with their Demons lunch boxes, footy's, etc. all out there and proud.
Really happy for the club but also keen to see the school kids share the same love for the Demons as I have from when I fell in love with the club at a very young age.

When I was 8 it was "Neitz!, Schwartz!, YYYYYYZZZEEEEEEEE, Green, Robertsen!, Jeff White, Brock McLean, Matthew Whelan, Cameron Bruce, Bizzell, and I could keep going.
Now the kids get to have posters of Petracca, Hogan, Viney, Brayshaw, Hunt, Gawn (The king of the kids himself) and more on their walls...(Not to mention some members hers )

Which by inference means he was mostly, and I would say nearly always, intending to stay.
