What contributions are you expecting .. Plenty of premiership players in the media who are not involved with their former clubs.. The club engaged with him to help when it was a busket case which represents were the club was that you can't take a band aid approach ..

The guy has been suffering a debilitating health problem.

He is not a murderer.

Yeah there are a few around here who don't get it. I wrote a post a while back in response to a poster who didn't get it, and it was well liked by a lot of demonlanders, I think most of this community is actually in the right place regarding this issue, with only a few stragglers:

 

 

I disagree that it's getting worse. My experience as been that overall, society's getting better at it. A few loud voices on some internet forums does not a majority make.

Just look at this thread. No one's having a go at Lyon because of his condition, just some non-favourable remarks mostly to do with his media performance.

Yeah good point, the awareness is probably getting better and in turn it just highlights the few stragglers as they stand out more.

What did Garry actually do that he deserves a second chance from us for? His family and the Brownless family are the only ones who would need to give him a second chance.

Who says Wayne deserves a second chance as well, he got one but I am not sure he deserved it.

I'm producing a series on men's depression. 1 in 8 men will suffer from depression and 1 in 5 men will experience anxiety at some point in their lives. Depression is the leading cause of death in men under 54 in Australia. Massive issue and we need to talk about it.

Personally not a wrap for him or his media work.

It's interesting to see the differing views, some seeing him as a good media man and footy analyst.

I thought he was more than a good player, probably just short of being a champion but don't rate his analysis at all myself.

Hope he gets back to doing what he loves. 

I believe however, there is an significant underlining difference from people suffering from depression and people choosing an action which ultimately leads to a state of depression (which had a massive consequence of said action) 

There are many people out there (some I know) who suffer from depression for no real reason. They have a great job, great family but they haven't done anything which ultimately lead to depression. They just mentally suffer from it and no matter how their life pans out (good or bad) they will always suffer from it. These people can win the lottery and be living on the Bahamas with a gorgeous model by their side and still be suffering from depression (mental illness).

Then, there are those who choose to act in a way they know will look bad if it gets out, they know the consequence of this action will cause an overwhelming stir, they know they will be in the spotlight if they get caught. I'm not saying these type of people don't deserve to be recognised as being sufferers from depression. In fact, I think it's harder for them as they have to deal with the spotlight, fall out of friends, families and a reputation being turmoiled right in front of their eyes. In summary though, there is a big difference in those to choose to act in a manner, and those that simply suffer from it regardless of the action.

But I don't give a [censored] whether or not he gets back into the footy media. There are few in the media I pay attention to, and he's not one of them.
