Dom Tyson re-signs

Mickey

Well done for showing your commitment & belief in the club..  This must put pressure on a particular forward who hasn't extended his contract ... Rest of his teammates are committed so what's holding him up??? I think as a footy club that this is the message he needs to hear .. Either commit or let the club know so they can plan their list choices going fwd ..

Definitely yet to hit his best footy. Can you imagine when Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, Stretch, Petracca etc are around the 25-27 mark?

Now that gets me extremely excited.

A lot could go wrong between now and then. I'm more excited about what they can achieve between 20-24. Look at the Dogs and you can see key mids don't have to be of that age

As I've posted somewhere else recently, Dom reminds me a bit of a young Joey Kennedy the way he goes about it.

Very strong over the ball, no fuss, a goal kicking mid...not particularly quick.

Kennedy is a gun and again stood up when his teammates fell away. Kept them in the game.

Dom has the tools to make a similar impact for us, but hopefully as part of a winning team.

Heard from someone close to Dom that he was disgruntled at the start of the season & the way his knee injury happened at the training camp & how he was rehabbed & would be looking for a trade a seasons end.. Not sure what the current situation is but the way we have been going you'd think it would help get over any concerns plus he's contracted until 2019 so he's going nowhere unless the club agrees..

This doesn't leave much in doubt I wouldn't have thought......

Please be true.

^ I too think he's surplus to our needs, even though he seems embedded in the 22 atm. I mean his numbers are thanks to our high possession game but he is just so vanilla.

He's not damaging, is a guaranteed holding the ball perpetrator at least twice a game and he runs around at one pace. None of these things are ideal given the outside role he seems to play.

I said this at the time (the disgruntled part not the trade part) but my post was deleted by the mods, it is 100% true.

Seems like he has a close group at the dees, not out of our 22, part of an up n coming team and is a local boy.

Tell me again why he'd wanna leave?

Training camp was too hard? Spare me..

Would find it difficult to believe the handling of this preseason injury would be the trigger for him to leave a club on the brink of success. Surely we are now professionally run that Mac and Goody would sit down with him and work it out. Or at least do 10 rounds in the ring and slug it out.

IF he were to want out I have no doubt that we would get good value for him. But if I were a recruiter at an oppo club I'd first ask myself why a high draft pick would leave the 2 clubs likely to be the most successful over the next decade. What would that say of him?

Sat next to his tiger supporting uncle a couple of weeks ago at the tigers v swans game.

he said that Dom was loving where the club was at and completely invested in Goodwins coaching and game-plan - which includes having "squads" of midfielders on rotations (Dom tends to spend more time in the middle in the second half), as it is too hard and physical for a smaller number of players to play totally in the middle.

I think this is a real strength for us. It will be interesting to see how it plays out on Friday - where they probably have more A graders but we have more depth.

I would suggest that keeping quality players like Tyson is absolutely essential to our progress.  While he's not in our top six players, he's accounting for the spread of talent that you need to be a top team in modern football.  His stock game is good, his better games are exceptional.

There's also been several games this year alone where he's been one of our better players when we're playing poorly; he doesn't drop his head and he keeps plugging away.  This was a feature of Nathan Jones in his developing years- when Melbourne lost, he always seemed to be in our best players.  When everything was going our way, he didn't seem to be noticed.

Can't tell you how I know, but this is rubbish at Trump-levels.

Dom isn't going anywhere, I work in the fitness industry and have connections to multiple clubs and I have never heard anyone say anything bad about that area of our club beyond that we are frustratingly cautious.

The way I see it Dom is behind Jones, Viney and Oliver as our in and under mid  - makes him our 4th tier mid. If Petracca become a full time mid then then Dom is 5th tier. Do I like someone of his quality as our 4th or 5th best mid ? you bet.

As long as all our players are playing well i am more than happy for a player to surpass another because of form and ability. If we get another mid that offers more than Tyson then great. At this stage we don't.

Sounds like a similar way of managing rotations to how basketball coaches manage lineup rotations.  2nd units have become almost (repeat almost) as critical as starting line-ups. As talent laden as Golden States starting five is, they have unbelievable depth, and don't drop off too much when the second unit is on court.

Dom is a very good player, hes too maligned around these parts.

Id like him to kick more goals though, as he showed he was capable of that in his first season with us.

He should be like Stephen  Powell circa 2000, if I recall correctly he averaged something like 25 possies and kicked 30 goals in our Grand FInal season.  Like Dom, he wasnt the most polished with his foot skills but he was a  lefty who loved a goal and was a weapon for us.

Tyson is absolutely integral to our side and is very underrated here.  He is a slow starter because he lacks a yard but he finishes games better than just about anyone else in red and blue.  His body strength on the inside is a real asset and he is a great decision maker despite the fact that the execution is sometimes lacking.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
