Basil - 'GWS didn't waste a single pick'. Really? I can think of a half dozen.

I think what he meant to say was 'gifted such extraordinary access to early draft picks that it'd be criminal if they weren't here'.

This was inevitable.   Manufactured garbage.  Ironic that that they are de-throning the COLA Swans.

You don't understand. This is good for us. Sure, we won't see a Premiership in my lifetime but I'm assured by Mike Fitzpatrick that it's all for the best. And if  or when they win the Premiership they will then get access to the best junior player in the land pre - draft. But again, that's all for the best. And in 2018 they will again have access to the best players in the land. It's only right.

I listened to Fitzpatrick for about 5 minutes on 774 pre game before I had to spew up.

Just recovering. That guy I will hate for the rest of my days as a destroyer of the game. Started talking GDP and numbers etc.

What an arrogant piece of work. Get someone in there who cares about the fans not numbers.

Once again though. No excuses for The MFC next year.

No reason why young kids cannot play finals if they are prepared right.

Hang on, WYL. GWS are approximately 2-3 seasons ahead of us in development. Most of their guys are approaching 100 games. They're in the perfect age bracket. Most of our guys are approaching 40 games. It's okay to demand high standards, but it's also important to be realistic.

wow that was some win. The young players weren't overawed at all by the occasion. Now Sydney have to host tonight winner. Geez I hope its the crows and they get through.

Never seen so much orange, guess all there fans showed up. But they now get to play at spotless that holds 24,000. Geez feel for the away team trying to go.

I know GWS are in a home prelim but I just feel that a hawthorn or the doggies could knock them off. Yes I know they thrashed the hawks previously but I think they could win. Maybe im just hoping. Geez wouldnt a gws/cats GF be interesting. With Stevie J and all. But a GF I wouldn't really want to see.

Anyway come on crows tonight. Make us see Brad Scott get angry and send those kangas off with a loss.

Mate our development has to get better otherwise we will fall again.

That is the harsh reality.

We have to make the jump the Bulldogs made last year, when we all thought they would be bottom 4.

I would agree up until the point that the umpires stepped in to make sure GWS kicked away.

Oh man the swans didn't stand a chance after halftime. I don't necessarily think it was solely due to the umpires, but they just couldn't hit the scoreboard. I don't actually think they were that much worse otherwise

Whatever the Blues received for Betts, they were robbed blind. Kudos Malthouse.

Funnily enough, they didn't receive compensation....because they already signed Dale Thomas as a free agent.

Again, kudos Malthouse

Bartlett was the best goal kicking rover I have seen but Betts is right up there next to him. Watching him read the play is a pure delight.

And Lindsay Thomas gets a free kick from a deliberate free kick. Oh, the irony!

Majak has misjudged the flight every time it's gone near him.

That crumbing by Betts though, beautiful.

Boomer on top of their stat sheet so far with 14 pos and 47 points. Dal santo down the bottom. Bit of a stink about this club really. They're a chore to watch. So messy and the biggest whimper they have is some push n shove.

How good is Eddie? We LOL at Malthouse for giving us Garlett for free, but that's got nothing on what Adelaide got.  Apparently Betts didn't really want to go but the difference in salaries being offered made it a no-brainer.  Gee you'd be angry if you were a Carlton fan.

If Adelaide continue to get it done then all results have gone the way I wanted this in finals week 1.  So far so good.

Funny when you announce a rebuild and sack you stars that the players might not be that focused on finals

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
