Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

That game kept our finals chances alive until we blew it, not a dead rubber.

Wasnt referring to that game which of course wasn't a dead rubber as we were still alive and the Hawks were playing finals.....  I was referring to games in the last round of the season for us which have always been dead rubbers the last decade..  where a lot of fans say the games are meaningless, which I dont agree with.  Every game matters.

Hawks are a fascinating case study this trade period.

The Lewis to us rumours, lets hope remain just that. You only had to watch the 2nd half of the final against the Bulldogs to see how slow all 3 of Lewis, Hodge and Mitchell looked against the hungry dogs. You could sense that was the end of the era in that half, both Hodge and Mitchell got smashed in contests, and Lewis was sitting on the bench with a battle related injury at the. As for his leadership? All of the cheap whacks behind play, or indeed right in the thick of it, ala on Goldstein etc, is hardly the sort of character building exercise we want to introduce here, he's not providing any leadership when he's suspended.

The 2 main hawks targets are also massive risks, Jaeger Bomb hasn't played in 2 years. And Mitchell was the fifth or even sixth banana in the Sydney midfield behind Kennedy, Parker, Hanneberry, Jack and Heeney towards the end of the year. The Swans will have the same ageing issue in a couple more years, and will also be heavily burdened with the 2 'Bondi Billionaires' excessive and long contracts.

By the sounds of the Lewis rumour he approached us not the other way. Based on this I have faith in Mahoney and co that we will not overtrade for a 30 year old regardless of how good he is. We seriously lack mature leadership and to gain Lewis for two years without giving much up would do wonders for the development of Brayshaw, Oliver, Trac and co.

Right, so I was wrong. Much more in it than I realised. Still may not happen but very interesting that Lewis approached us, not the other way round.

Wonder if it was after a shoulder tap by Clarko?

I'd bring in Lewis for a reasonable deal/price. Sure a team with all 3 of hodge, lewis and mitchell might havee looked slow against the dogs but theyre all good players. Stevie J and others looked cooked at their old club but look fresh surrounded by youth. Price would have to be right but id be open to it

I wonder is something like that has occurred, forcing Lewis to look around. Now that Mitchell has all but agreed to go the Hawks are trying to back track and maybe Lewis is keen on a fresh start as well? Interesting.

Not sure how I feel about this. Love Lewis's toughness and team first ethic, but too old now? Also, I know these guys are professionals, but I wonder how easy it is to drum up your enthusiasm for another club, when you've only got a couple of years left as a player.

Still - kudos to whichever poster it was, who claimed we would be looking at a curve ball trade.

Lewis is younger than I thought.  Will be 30 years old at round 1, 2017.

Averaged 25 possies in 2016, including a 42 possession game,  with 5 clearances, 4 tackles per game.  Came 2nd in the Hawks B and F.

And on top of that has a truckload of finals and premiership experience.  Get him.

I know Hawks have a knack to get deals done but even they can't manage a deal on Lewis with the Dee's with Mahoney so tied up and busy with make or break deals like what pick to give up for Hibbered. 12 months worth of planning has gone into this decision so he must get it right!

Coming to the end of week 1, it is gonna be tight to get this over the line.

A few people, you in particular if I recall, got into Mahons last year only for him to come out looking pretty sharp at his job by the end of it.

You're comments here suggest the sharpness of a pancake.

He probably wont look slow with when he feeds it off quickly to Jayden Hunt burning past him.

On Lewis' Wikipedia page it says current club Melbourne......

Anyway, we are talking Lids having 4 years in him, Buddy having another 5, so why cant Lewis who has barely (really barely, look at it it is amazing how durable he is - never under 19 games per season (first season) and played over 22 games every year since 2010) missed a game his entire career play for another 3-4 years?

Is he who I want? No - I'm pretty annoyed that we are not chasing Ahern and Pickett as they are exactly what we need. But I wouldnt say no to a champion.

  • Clarkson and Lewis' end of season discussion was really bad (apparently), left angry from it
  • Pickering (manager) has gone straight to Melbourne (Lewis' choice)
  • MFC saying they were approached by Lewis' management
  • Melbourne seem happy to take Lewis if Hawthorn Agree
  • Hawthorn in damage control and dont want to lose him.

Podcast of NAB trade radio released just now summary (voices of: Barrett, Wallace, Cleary):

- Hawthorn in "damage control", "borderline crisis"

- Jordan Lewis "disgruntled", "no guarantee he'll be playing for Hawthorn" next year

- Clarkson approached Lewis, as he did with Mitchell, but only in last 24 hours Hawthorn want Lewis to stay

- Demons were approached by Lewis' management (Pickering), not other way around, MFC people confirmed this

Absolutely nothing new in that podcast.

Lewis isn't some fringe kid with a massive ego and Clarko isn't a crazed emotionless idiot. They've been together for 12 years and won 4 flags. Lewis can swallow his pride and stay at the Hawks very easily. Typical Barrett sensationalism.

You all doubted equalisation, it's working.

Hawks bring in some young guns, and sprinkle their premiership pensioners around the league...

On a serious note, I hope it's true. Too much is up to Viney and Jones. Tyson is inconsistent. Adding Lewis shares the load and allows the kids more time to develop properly rather than be relied upon too early.

I doubt it'll happen, but it'll be nice if it does.

It's nice to be considered/chosen rather than laughed and snorted at.
Been a while since that happened...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
