Same height, Hartlett is 5y younger, Hartlett has inferior stats to Vince and hasn't won a B&F let alone 2. So I am not sure how you are making that comparison.

Melksham is a spud. Goodwin seems keen on him but EFC supporters hate him. T/over merchant. And he has a WADA penalty possibly hanging over him.

He's a lot of what we need and had 3 consistent injury free years. But I thought he was a little down on his best this year.

He'd be great, but I'm not sure I'd go super hard in a trade for him.

If you pay top dollar for a trade in you need top results. To get Hartlett I think we'd have to give up nearly a kings ransom. Surely Port would rather squeeze out a lesser player than one of their best 5-10.

anyone who thinks hammer is 'not a good bloke' needs their info corrected. he's a genuinely good bloke. i personally find it hard to see him leaving sa, as he's adelaide born-and-bred.

he's also a gem of a footballer; his best is ahead of vince at his best in my opinion.

he can play half-back but he can also play through the guts - he's started as part of the midfield rotation consistently for port over the last three to four seasons.

i don't know why they've got such a boner for dixon; mitch clark mk 2 (in that he only gets on the field about 12-16 times a season in good years).

but if someone like hartlett falls to a club such as ours as a result then bring it on.

Vince had a B&F and an All Australian to his name at Adelaide before we traded for him. Pretty sure that trumps Hartlett.

But they already can't play Ryder and Lobbe in the same side. Adding Dixon to that mix gives them 3 x 200cm+ talls. And reportedly they won't trade away Lobbe.

In hindsight if they knew Dixon was available 12 months later they should've avoided Ryder.

I can't believe this is accurate. Read his profile on the Port Adelaide website, it reads like the profile of the greatest player to play for Port. He is their highest ever draft pick at 4 and he is considered elite by them. It's got to be Caro doing a wind up on Gary and other Demons supporters.

Reckon Hartlett could have a Vince-like impact if he came to Melbourne. I'd expect him to really stick it up them wherever he goes.

Their numbers are very similar. Vince has more clearances, Hartlett more tackles.

Hartlett would be a show for a top-5 best and fairest placing, without being on ludicrous dollars.

The triangle deal with Gold Coats and Port sounds plausible if the Suns are still interested in Howe.

Whatever Port needs can be on-traded from Gold Coast, which is obviously going to have a lot of movement of picks and players anyway, something suitable should churn through.

The other possibility is something like the Tyson deal. Downgrading our first pick and throwing in our second rounder might be enough.

A quick caveat - there's no doubt he would be worth the first rounder in a simple 'value proposition', but with Hartlett being part of the free agency midfield bonanza coming next year, the merchant is leaning on the scales a little.

Vince's best year is better than Hartlett's. Anyway you slice it or dice it 27 possessions is better than 22, especially in a B&F year when your team finished 5th and won a final. That's a bit better effort than Terlich's third in a 2 win year. Vince also has 2 x B&F's to his name.

Hartlett has the superior upside. However, it's silly to suggest he's been better than Vince, as they've been about the same and Vince has a couple of milestones that have eluded Hartlett..

Vince's best year is better, but I'd argue they've been similar in overall output. I also believe Hartlett has the higher ceiling.

My point was it's silly to say Hartlett has "clearly been better".

But I realise it's nuanced and perhaps difficult for posters, such as yourself, to understand.

Either way, they're pretty even and I'd love to have both of them in our midfield. I keep banging on about us getting Prestia. Just imagine this midfield for a minute...

Prestia, Jones, Vince, Hartlett, Viney, Tyson, Salem, Brayshaw. That is not a bad start. There is some serious talent in that list. It still lacks a bit of x-factor, which I'm hoping someone like Petracca can bring. Vanders, Garlett and Hogan as other occasional mids - yes, Hogan will play stints in the midfield, as we've already seen this year.

In summary, get Hartlett and if we can keep our first rounder in doing so, we'll be really well positioned to further strengthen our midfield this year.
