Would think the most likely other candidate would be Watts as a utility on the bench, maybe Viney if the selectors remember the first half of the year well.

Would like to think that Viney and Watts would both be chances for the squad, but Maxy is the only one I think will make the actual team. (He's a certainty)

Gawn and T Mac are big chances forget the rest.

A number of players have had some very good games but not consistent which is what you need to be to get AA.

Agree with the above. Aside from Max, Viney and Watts would probably be our other most likely candidates for the squad. Don't see it happening though.

Neville Jetta would be a lock for All Australian if he played for Hawthorn or Geelong. He's had an outstanding year.

Max is a certainty.

Viney was on all-Australian pace early but has slowed down after his injury. I reckon he might make the squad. Watts may also sneak into the squad. I don't reckon he deserves to but he seems to be a bit of a good news story so he might get in on that basis.

Neville Jetta really has been outstanding. Amazing judgement of the ball in flight and timing of spoils against much taller opponents. Has been reading the play very well too, building up more and more intercept marking as a part of his game. Never been any doubt on his toughness and refusal to submit, that's for sure.

I'd say he's a chance, but I don't know much about who his competition would be, as a 'true' small defender.

And his mate Jayden Hunt would be talked about in contention for the rising star.

Nah, can't see anyone else except Maxy. Jetta has been pretty consistent except for a poor patch of a month in the middle of the year. Other than that, Viney has been too inconsistent at the end of the day.

Surely Maxy is a certainty. Any other Dees a smokey for a bench spot? Viney? Jones? Watts

No - not this year.

B: H.Shaw Rance Rampe

HB: Laird Talia Docherty/Boyd

C: Smith Dangerfield Steven

HF: Rioli Jenkins Bontempelli

F: Betts Franklin Parker

Ru: Gawn Sloane Hannebery

Int: Treloar, Coniglio, Kennedy, R.Gray

Gawn, Viney, should certainly be in the squad.  Jetta, Jones and Watts a good chance

Gawn a 100% lock for the AA 22. First and only ruck.

Viney's had too many quiet games since Port in Alice Springs to be a chance. He's had a good year, but to make the AA squad as a midfielder you have to be a rung higher than what Viney has produced. Remember there's about 100 regular midfielders competition wide and only about 7-8 can make it.

Everyone call the bont a lock, which he will be but statistically Viney had a very even year

Bonts work is no doubt noticed more due to his size and the nature of his touches, which are often at crucial points of the match. Not saying that Vineys aren't, but most of his work is in and under.

I don't think he has the class of the Bont either Django he just does not look as good.

Probably true OD, but he has more mongrel than almost any player in the league and considering where we've come from, I prefer that.

Agree but I just don't think he looks as good as others to selectors.

I don't have much interest in AA or Rookie awards etc. I am interested in the Dees rising up the ladder.

The rest are just side shows that I cannot get excited about.

Gawn will get in - not only does he deserves it, but the media love him.

Viney should make the squad.

TMac is a strong chance for the squad as well, whilst Jetta deserves it but there is to much competition for the small defending back (think bulldogs, crows, blues, hawks and swans)

A lot will depend on how many magpie players the squeeze into the team/squad!  Even our own Harry O, has been all Australian at one point.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
