Hawthorn posters on BigFooty are incensed about the umpiring bias in Melbourne's favour.

This is why I try to avoid commenting on umpiring, or let it affect me too much either during games or after.  We watch everything through biased eyes, it causes us to only see the poor decisions that go against us.

Ha my Hawks mate was the same! Unbelievable.

They certainly got the rub of the green in the first half but we got some shockers in the second half.

Overall, the umpiring favoured Hawthorn.

IMO, Pedersen gets another year as depth. Twice the player as Dawes for half the price. Obviously not future, but valuable during the handover.

Pederson was terrific. Understated but did a lot of the grunt work.Everyone contributed to a fantastic team effort. Sam Frost is a great acquisition.

Just saw on afl tonight, Mitchell punched Watts while watts was on the ground. He better get cited and given WEEKS. Talk about snipers. Last time ceglar thumped Hogan behind play and he didn't get cited. Tim Watson said on 7 news he'll be reported and get a week.  Hawks are untouchable by the looks of it

Mitchell gets away with cheap sniping on a regular basis.  I will bet he will get off....a fine at most.

Best win since 2000 qualifying final against Blues.

I agree. GREAT WIN DEES!

Midfield was awesome today, we are a far better side with Oliver in it.

What are Gawn's odd's for the brownlow? What a sensational year he is having.

Apparently the bookies have already paid out on Dangerfield.....Max is currently 251/1 (maybe a place)

Yes I thought Cyril was doing a fair bit of unjustified, and, as it turned out, premature strutting today. A couple of times he seemed to be waiting for the adoring fellow players to gather around for the predictable accolades.

Good call. Was just saying the exact thing to my brother on the phone. Rioli. omg I wish someone would smash his fkn nose.

And I think it's time to admit I owe an apology.

Jack Watts, I said you were finished, and also questioned your courage. It took a long time, but the egg on my face is well cooked. I talk footy with a number of Dees supporters, and to a man, they now agree that you are a star of the club, and bloody close to a star of the comp. Well done bloke, and may it continue.

The dee's supporters were going ballistic in the last quarter, in fact for most of the game, there is a lot of passion amongst us. Effing shyte umpires nearly killed the game.

We may not have a lot, at the moment, but we sure make a noise. Great game, great win and great bunch of kids who don't know anything other than having a red hot go.

A couple of thoughts and sorry if they've been made before

Under the heading :

REAL PROGRESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was the first time I can remember our players showing the strength and self-belief to break through tackles and push off opposing players to take the ball away with attack in mind.

also

even at the time I thought Rioli's excessive triumphalism (10.40 on the clock in Q4) after he regained the lead seemed to have a slight air of desperation.

P.S.

Brayshaw deserves to keep his spot just for that mark, let alone his other really good work

I picture some old guy, writhing on his bed, gasping for his life giving meds, as you wave him away while you watch the Dees dismantle the Horks on his TV.

Terrible Ding, just terrible.

Just watching the replay now which is bringing back memories of the game, one of which was the unofficial Hawks cheer squad in the standing room at the Punt rd end. They had chants putting down Melbourne which included the F bomb.Easily the most arrogant supporters that I have encountered this year.

It's still frustrating to look back on matches that we should have could have won and how we could be in the 8. Losing to essendon, wc and if that kick from bugg went straight to stretch against nth and if we could have beaten the saints. Anyway at least this season has provided some enjoyable wins. I guess you want to earn your spot int he 8 and not just fallin to be thrashed.

It's great people are now noticing Maxy. People are saying he has to be the All Australian ruckman. Looking at the highlights Dwayne said he wants to grow a beard. But at the start of the yr Max stated he wanted to be up with the top ruckman in the comp. But I loved how after he kicked his goal he grabbed his jumper and looked to the crowd. He just loves the dees.

Also I enjoyed Frost's dont argue on Hodge.

Don't forget VBs don't argues on Hodge.

Pure strength and was great to watch.

Just watched the replay and my god the umps were horrific.

I paid a lot more attention to them than i usually do and couldn't believe some of the decisions.

Mans even the commentators agreed with me which never happens.

Go Dees

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
