Presume Frost will come back in - perhaps for O'Mac? Depends on match ups, perhaps Garland. I know some here are saying he was poor at Casey, maybe that's the case (didn't see), but his numbers look decent.

Then we get into the rest - hard to know. If Stretch just needed a freshen up he could get a run, but if they want him to work on aspects of his game, he'll have to come back through Casey. There were 4 or 5 who seemed to do OK there, from ANB through to Oliver, Newton etc., but Oliver apart they've all been found wanting at AFL level, and Oliver only plays restricted game time, so not sure there either. Plenty of candidates if we wanted to drop a few, and perhaps Grimes has played his last Demons game, which would be disappointing.

I think there'll be a few changes, but suspect that from now on, they're going to be made with one eye on 2017, so hard to guess. I'd go with White, Grimes, Kennedy out, then add Frost plus two of Spencer/Stretch/ANB/Oliver.

West Coast have Kennedy, Darling and sometimes a resting ruckman, otherwise it's mids and smalls (LeCras, Hill, Yeo, Redden).

We can afford to have TMac and Frost, drop OMac and not bring in Dunn or Garland, I think.

I'm at the point now where I would prefer to pick Spencer (or Pedersen) as a second ruck/resting forward than continue to use Watts in the ruck (the issue with that being the lack of a second target in the forward line while he's in the ruck, more so than his actual output in the ruck).

I'd also drop at least one of Grimes and White, too similar and both too poor today to warrant re-selection. Kennedy also struggled whilst Harmes is a bit of a nomad at the moment and I'm not sure what his best place is in the side (i.e. I'm not sure he's adding enough value to hold his spot).

Weed is very underdeveloped physically - not a good idea against West Coast - they would eat him.

I would have thought their weed eating days were behind them....

Vandenberg would be my first out. Looks totally out of form and fitness, 12 ordinary disposals and 1 tackle does not cut it and he has been ordinary for weeks...plenty of others could join him though

Change for next week : leave telly off

Agree.  After today's garbage, I have no confidence this list can win another game this year. Too many holes in the list, too many passengers who do not improve.  West Coast will brush us away with ease.  Very sad this mob keep letting themselves and the heartland down.

Going by the MRP form, I wouldn't be surprised if Hogan got a week for that elbow.

Aside from that, who knows. Hard to identify the real strugglers when there are 19 of them on show on the same day.

When have the MRP rubbed anyone out for that?  The one Vince got away with earlier this year was worse.  I reckon the MRP in the present incarnation are generally under-penalising, but that's just gut feel.

Free kick as paid, that's it I reckon.

He did take a bit of a wind up, unfortunately. Wasn't really just shrugging him off - it was a very frustrated, pre-mediated high elbow to the head.

I didn't see it that way at all.  I guess we'll see.

I honestly don't care anymore.

For the first time in maybe 15 years I did not buy a membership - made that hard decision after the Essendon disgrace, reinforced by Saints #1 capitulation.......etc

Deckchairs on the titanic but at least Maxie gets a chop-out for a week.

I've been a Grimes defender, but it was clear that as soon as the pressure went up, he was not up to it.

White much the same, although maybe is allowed a chance to adjust.

If you don't care then why are you here?

You making that statement about not buying a membership is a protest against the club, which means you do care (and you should still have bought a membership).

Wrong message to the kids who are our future and wrong message to the supporters, even if that's what your defeatist mind currently wants.

The players are plagued by defeatist minds. They will crumble at the first hint of pressure from WC.

Garland was appalling at Casey

ANB was good Dunn was ok and Spencer was very good

Oliver was just ok so maybe Dunn ANB and Oliver

Players who could get a run for the trip West:  Frost, Oliver, Stretch, ANB, Bugg, Pedersen.

We could then rest players with injury doubts:

  • Oscar - ankle last week
  • Bernie - shin last week
  • Captain Courageous - apparent dodgy knee yesterday
  • Hogan - Went down to the rooms after crashing down flat on his back.
  • Watts - rolled his ankle yesterday.
  • Wagner - if still hampered

So yes, I am suggesting we give up the Perth game as lost.  Heresy, I know.  I doubt we can win regardless of who we pick and it allows players with injury doubts to recover giving ourselves the best chance of winning a few of the last 5 games.

Mitch white & Jack Grimes.. catch ya later. I said it prior to yesterdays game that there was no spot for White, he played well against a bottom side where the condition suited his slow one paced game. Im confident that he wont be on the list next year. Grimes, I've always been a fan but a couple of efforts in the last quarter spells the end... His over run of the ball near the boundary resulting in a goal & his poor attempt at a spoil resulting in a goal.

Also what has happened to Vandenberg ? Looks so slow & one paced. Not the tackling machine he was last year.. Maybe the ankle injury during pre season has stuffed his year more than we thought.

OUT: White, VDB, Grimes, Kennedy,

IN: Frost, Stretch, Oliver, Bugg

Would like Watts to spend more time up forward, we need another target other then Hogan... But doubt that will happen

Vanders has been a disappointment this season. Has gone backwards since last year. Looks slow and disinterested

It's the Melbourne way. So many of our players do this.

Seemed to come back too quick from his ankle injury and hasn't been the same since. Send him off for surgery now so he can do a full preseason.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
