Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

watts has been hugely benefited by stints in the ruck. it brings different assets of his game into the game.

i think we definitely need wagner back in - it releases vince to move through the midfield more. i'd like to see oliver back in for his clean hands in possession and tackling intensity. i'd still much prefer mac x2 and frost as our key defenders than bring in garland if we're sticking to the three talls back, three talls forward structure that has clearly been the preference thus far this year.

i would expected those most under the kosh would be vandenberg, petracca and dawes, although the latter two are pretty important to our forward line structure.

likely ins: wagner, oliver

likely outs: vandenberg, stretch

and stretch has been good but i think harmes can cover that linebreaking wingman role, and in the darwin conditions we'll need oliver's clean hands at the contest and physical strength. can't see bugg or one of the triumvirate of rotating small forwards going out.

B: Jetta - T. McDonald - Frost
HB: Hunt - O. McDonald - Wagner
C: Vince - N. Jones - M. Jones
HF: Petracca - Dawes - Kennedy
F: Watts - Hogan - Garlett
Foll: Gawn - Tyson - Viney
I/C: Oliver - Kent - Bugg - Harmes
Emerg: Trengove - vandenBerg - Stretch

No doubt Dawes is a great clubman and i do rate his work I'd love to see Spencer come in and double team and also allows Gawn to play/rest forward, I'd also bring in both trengove and Grimes as they're workrate will tip their favour playing at TIO.

Im with most of posters who no longer rate Grimes but if he can go back to Casey and work to be coming a mid/wing player collecting 30+ pos most games id have to give him 1 last block of games to convince.

In my opinion the last hurdle for grimes to clear would be to improve his 1st option instead of randomly kicking or handpassing . Make the posssie count.

Trengove or Bayshaw for the interchange and Harmes to step in for Wagner if unavailable?

Unless Pedo is back (pretty he is not) then no change

kids need to develop more and the guys that played at casey will be no more fresh then the AFL guys

I though the team played well on sunday - just young guys in particular making errors at key stages

Not sure if you are suggesting he is ugly or auto-correct got you, such a pity.

I thought that thumb typing should be banned, now I am sure, perhaps just a young guy making errors. Sorry Dub, I am a bit bored at work.

I don't know if this has been mentioned to date but I was listening to a pre match interview on SEN with Josh Mahoney and he was asked about the selection of younger defenders like Sam Frost and Oscar McDonald ahead of the more experienced defenders like Lynden Dunn and Colin Garland and Josh said that players were being picked on form. There is also the need to get games into the legs of the younger players. On this basis I think the futures at the club of Jack Grimes and Heritier Lumumba for that matter would also be limited.

And if that's the way to go then Chris Dawes is skating on thin ice because the selectors might well decide to give Liam Hulett a chance very soon in his place.

Wagner good chance to play:

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-07-05/wagner-a-good-chance-to-return

Btw the game is at night so it won't be 33 degrees.  Overnight low f/cst is 21 so game conditions may not be too bad with no rain for some days and low humidity.

Freo have only about 28 players fit to choose from.

So even allowing for their extended break it will be a shock if we don't beat them.

The real point is that we should not be playing there at all if we are going to be taken as a serious player in Melbourne

I know the financial arguments but time to look for an alternative source of funds (crowd funding perhaps? )

And that leaves Hawthorn and Tassie where?

I won't be shocked if we lose.

We haven't won in the NT under Roos and we've barely kicked 5 goals a game against Freo. Add a 6 day break and you'd almost be talking a memorable win if we can knock them off.

Agree. But even considering the break, we're talented enough now that I'm confident that this would be a straightforward win at the G. Unfortunately the venue changes everything.

Just watched the second quarter from Punt Rd (was there for the first) and Clayton Oliver was back to his explosive and damaging best. Hands are a weapon from stoppages but we all want him to kick it more. One passage late in the Qtr caught my eye. He took off from the centre bounce after a tap from Spencer, accelerated away and had a long shot from just outside 50... it was touched on the line but the breakaway speed was sensational at that level.

If you listened to Watts interview, the players actually enjoy the trip to Darwin. I don't think that it will adversely effect us more than any other team (whose players may actually NOT enjoy it)! If we win, we will be be taken seriously you can rest assured on that.

SNAP.

we will be going well to win this one. Freo +19 points or something.  Value bet of the round.

Yep, this one has loss written all over it. We're predictably awful after 6 days, we've lost every occasion this year and against some very winnable opposition to boot.

Just because the players enjoy it doesn't make it a good idea.

Let's see if we win first before you discount it. The sponsorship from the NT Government helped us at a low time and building relationships with the top ends indigenous communities may also bring benefits!

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
