RICHMOND v CASEY SCORPIONS

KC from Casey

Is Tim Smith AFL standard?

I've seen him kick some classy goals from the centre bounce.

Does he smoke Winfield Reds or did he go to the wrong school or something?

Seems to be better that some of our battlers?

Clearly (perhaps not)  I'm referring to them developing into the players we know they'll become.

I'm not referring to next week or the rest of the year.

Fair point. I'm just sick of seeing people who don't understand the importance of elite runners in a team, particularly when it comes to the outside mids. So when I saw the sooner the better I probably unfairly lumped you in with that group.

Seems to be a fair bit of it around, even from AFL coaches who don't grasp it. Clarko led the way with Hill and Smith torching the wings and it's taken years for other clubs to adapt.

The Giants use Scully, Whitfield and Kelly to great benefit. Sydney have Hannebery as a weapon inside but have focused on getting more run in their side.

Matt Jones is a bit of a necessary evil right now. And I will defend Buggy. He won some crucial contests today and has done it most of the year. To have a guy who's going to always be running to provide an option and you can trust that if you kick it his way he'll give his all to win it is very handy. I don't mind the idea of him being the 22nd picked each week and in the side because he'll work his backside off covering others and put his body on the line. We'll have a good team if we can start leaving him out. Or if we can get him to use his right side he could probably stick in the team as a quality player. That would be a nice option!

I really hope we rookie Declan Keilty. Has some seriously strong dukes and is a decent kick

Tim Smith is an interesting prospect. He would make a handy mature age forward depth option and would certainly be worth a look also. Couldn't be any worse then Dawes.

How old is Tim Smith? Seems unlucky to have never been drafted

Someone asked one of the coaches or recruiters a while ago about Smith.  The reply was that he's just too inconsistent.  He'll kick a bag one week and then do nothing for the next three.

His stats and times in the best this year suggest he's more consistent and doing well playing as a half forward sacrificing his game to allow Casey to play 3 or 4 other talls in the forward line.

18 goals, 6 times in the best from 10 games.

Sam Lloyd kicked 38 goals from 17 games at Frankston before he was drafted.

I'd say given he's a bit older that Smith would want to build on his form for the rest of the year but it's a shame there's not mid season drafts and we couldn't give him a run instead of the current options of Dawes/Pedda or the kids who aren't ready.

And anyone in for Frost....he is off AFL by a long way at the moment. We are one man down in defence when he plays and one man down with Dawes in as well. Dawes looks ok when playing against ordinary sides like the Pies (at the moment) which lulls some (including me at times) into thinking he offers us something.

Who do we bring in for Frost down back? When is H back?

Grimes for Ben Ken? BK mostly an outside player but pretty bad disposal so isn't giving us much when he does get it.  Some might say Grimes is as bad but he gets more contested stuff and more versatile.

Have you seen Oscar McDonald? Frost has more upside - yes he makes errors, but we could talk about both McDonalds all day regarding their disposal and decision-making.

Not sure I agree. Oscar is just 20; Frost is nearly 23. Oscar has yet to fully develop his body; Frost has a much stronger physique. I don't know if either will make it, but Frost strikes me as an athlete first (and a very good one) who needs to improve his skills (which aren't good) whereas Oscar is a footballer who needs to develop his body. Whether Frost can improve his skills as much as Oscar his body will, I think, determine which of the two becomes the better asset.

Did anyone else see, early in the 2nd quarter, Daniel Rioli stream out of the centre square with the clearance and send a beautiful long kick into....Caseys forward line?
The poor kid had kicked it to the wrong end! And we got a goal out of it. I left not long after that to head to the G, but comedy play of the day hands down.

Keilty copped an absolute bone-jarring hit from who I assume was one of the Richmond ruckmen early in this game too, so not sure if he recovered and came back on or not?

Based solely on those statts Four players screaming "I should be playing in Darwin'

Dunn, Grimes, ANB and Oliver.

ANB won't be the coach did not give him a big rap.

Dunn and Grimes are in the dog house so that probably means Oliver we be the only change.

I bet it helps his game to be playing with so many afl players.  Campared to last year the list is so much stronger

Brayshaw only 18 disposals?? Twitter feeds suggested he was mid 20's for disposals.

I wouldn't upgrade any midfielder who has below 8 tackles. If the mids want to get into the main side they need to be working harder - that involves 1% acts like tackling. High tackling numbers tells me they are working hard, and they are defensively sound. I wouldn't even consider anyone below 8. I don't care if they kick 5 goals and have 50 touches. In the AFL they will still be caught out.

7 marks is nice for Weideman. I'd like him to get 20 touches and kick 5 goals every week but if he's just building his fitness and body then I'm happy if he does the job that separates good key forwards from bad ones which is take marks.

I don't believe that Brayshaw should return to the AFL before he has displayed a good block of games at Casey . There are years ahead for him lets not ruin him by rushing him back.

IIRC Trenners only played half a game, as he was on standby for the AFL team. So I would think 14 possessions in a half put him in the frame, possibly ahead of Oliver.

Depends on the role and the game style I guess.

The perfect game of footy would have 0 tackles because you'd always have the ball. And if Spencer is winning the hit outs then just win the clearance and stuff tackling! But I agree on the sentiment I guess. We seem to laud the guy who gets 30 disposals in the VFL when the guy who had 20 might've done a lot more for the team.

I have this feeling he has entered the same house as Dunn and Grimes.

Papers probably stamped 186 participants.

Why did he only play half a game?

I think it was because the AFL game started at 3.20, about an hour after the Casey game. So he was held back until after the AFL game started in case someone was injured in the warm up. But once the game started, he was free to play for Casey.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
