MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 15

No Grimes... Get stuffed. Maybe if Viney doesn't come up he or Trengove will replace him. But you gotta feel for Grimes, Gartlett does sweet [censored] all and gets back in, different players yes but still. Harmes goes back for one game and performs but comes straight back in. If I was grimes I'd tell Roos to stick it, I'll play the year out at casey

Jack Grimes was kept behind to chat with coaches after training training at Goschs Paddock today. Picture: Andrew Tauber

Coaches talking with Jack after training today.

Picture says it all - no one looks happy.  Jack looks shattered. Feel for him.

Says it all, really.

At least Roos and the coaching team are man enough to take him aside and tell him their decision and not just select the side and allow him to find out that way.

Harmes Garlett M Jones..

Grimes emergency.....

Unbelievable once again... Garlett brought in based on poor form yet Grimes yet again named Emergency... Starting to get sick of this coaching staff and their selection panel.

Trengove given 3 games and dropped..

Roos is starting to lose me.

I think the selections would be much easier to understand and accept if they matched Roos' rhetoric.  He preaches reward for good form and yet there are some very protected species in this team.  I like Vanders, Harmes and Garlett but two have been ordinary for a while and one is rewarded for a good game at Casey.  In the mean time Newton, ANB and Grimes play well week in week out for no reward.

It's clear these three are not in our forward thinking.  If that's the case I hope there is more honesty shown to the player in private than is being shared with the supporters because at the moment Roos is treating us with little respect.

Tough viewing, but compare to the Daniher years. He'd have gotten a game simply because he's a stalwart, not because it's best for the team (think Yze in his last few years). Maybe it's for the best. Gotta back in the coaches.

It could be more than just performance. If anything Roos is deeply philosophical and mental. It might be a personality issue for the likes of ANB and Newton.

All discussion around selections aside, I think we have picked a very strong team for this game.  While their forward line is very, very dangerous, I think we clearly have the edge on them in the midfield battle and this will help to support the back half in their efforts to stop Betts, Tex and Jenkins.

Our forward line looks good too and could cause them some real problems, although this will be down to how much pressure our small brigade can put on them when the ball hits the deck.  If they can hit the scoreboard and force turnovers then there is no reason why we can't win.

Garlett is very, very lucky.

I like the Matt Jones inclusion, he was very good earlier in the year before injury and will give us more than Trenners currently is.

Loved what matty jones brought early in the year, hope for him to become the next Nev Jetta, going from the cusp of delisting to being a first 22 player. He is currently doing everything to be that, good form early then injury then smashing it in the 2s to get back in quick.

Garlett has to play, he is dangerous, Kent and Kennedy show glimpses but dont threaten the scoreboard in the same way. Its less likely to be bucketing down so that sould help him too.

He doesn't have to....gee all the sudden 'hatred' for Roos, and to think last year he was the saviour, now he is just a naughty boy

They were 3 ordinary games Dazzle, take the emotion out of it, neither Grimes or Trengove in the team is a good thing. Roos is there every training session, he knows what they can and can't do, Roos is certainly not losing me, i like the changes, the ins have pace and we are in dire need of some

The Jack Grimes pity train is starting to get abit over the top, it's Chris Lamb all over again. The selectors pick the best side to win the match, emotion does not come in to it. How can people here honestly get so [censored], believe me, Roos leaves us in the dust when it comes to knowing what his players are capable of. Be disappointed because you like Grimes, i understand that but starting to dislike Roos because Grimes isnt getting a game is rediculous

Don't agree they were ordinary games, Trengove played his role, but agree looks to have gone for pace, if it works it is genius, if not pages of vitriol on here

No you're right, he doesn't have to and he's showing that by his actions.  All Roos had to say on Jack is that it's difficult to fit him in with the competition for the spots he can play but he hopes he'll get a go soon.  Not this platitude of "I want him to be in really good form to give himself the best chance".  He's been "in really good form" and he hasn't been given an opportunity.

If he isn't in our thinking then that's fine but don't tell us one thing and do another.

I disagree. When Trengove was selected emotion would've played a part. Then there'd be some relationship issues and disciplinary issues affecting selections, and then the selection changes based on what's at stake

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
