M. Jones is unlucky (as is Terls) but I cannot see Judy staying or Grimes either.

We have ND30, ND 50, ND 68 and ND82 (all approx. obviously) right now so removing more than that will rely on upgrades and FA acquisitions.

Let's say that we use the first 3 picks, Wagner is upgraded (although he hasn't yet done enough for me to upgrade him on evidence so far...), and we get Prestia. That is 5 changes.

Dawes, Trengove, Terlich, Newton, M Jones, and Grimes are OOC and not playing - not a good pairing traditionally... Pedersen also has to maintain (regather) his form.

Unless Jetta or Watts leaves the 4 or 5 to make way will be from the aforementioned group. Working backwards I would keep Trengove, then Dawes, then Pedersen.

At this stage, I think we should delist Terlich, Newton, M Jones, and Grimes form the PL.

So I don't think more 5 changes at this stage.

Well, if you follow my logic then if we make 6 changes - he would make way.

We are extrapolating here about how the season will end and I like what Dawes brings with the way he plays as opposed to Pedersen.

Frankly, this is arguing over chaff really, which I get bored of easily. Both Pedersen and Dawes are near the end of their careers. The small decision I would make is Dawes over Pedersen if he can get back to playing AFL football in 2016.

The sooner Hulett or Weideman are ready the better - but that may be a few years. Having a stop gap is handy.

Not saying I disagree, but for King to stay, doesn't he now have to be upgraded or go back through the draft as his time on the RL has expired?

FWIW I think Terlich, Grimes and Dawes in that order will be most likely to make way. JKH is contracted until 2017 so may be very lucky as I don't think he has shown near enough to retain and unlike Hunt doesn't have any elite attributes... Maybe he can do a Jetta? Newton would have to be the other one under the pump at this stage although his Casey form since coming back from injury has been strong. I think Matt Jones has shown this year he is comfortable at AFL level, offers outside run which we lack and accordingly he should be offered another one year extension.

i think we are well set for KPFs if Hogan and Watts both stay. Weideman will be ready to come in by next year and Hulett is developing. KPDs we have TMac and hopefully Frost and OMac will also be ready to really own spots next year (or earlier). They are all tall and fast so I can see a world where we play all three every week which would make life hard for most forward lines.

We are really developing well in terms of inside mids and have a range of players that can play small/half forward. Melksham will come in as a HBF next year to compliment Salem, Vince, Lumumba, Wagner and Hunt. Jetta is a lock selection every week.

i think the areas we have no or little coverage are rucks - really only Spencil if Max goes down. Outside pace with damaging skills - Stretch can be this but do we have any others? Maybe Salem becomes this player? And another small lock down defender like Jetta. These would be my areas of priority, But you can always use more mids, quality talls and players who have skills coming out of the back line.

Ok I agree with your basic premise however I would go for Pedersen. He at least can play most weeks.

The lowest number of list changes from last season were Hawthorn and Sydney. With 8 each. The year before that was Freo and West Coast with 6. Sure, we have a lot of potential talent developing but I'm not sure why people think we're suddenly in some position to sit pretty and make a mere 3-5 changes?

I think it comes down to not having many older players to off load, there may be a couple but more than 2 would surprise me. Then you look at the younger lot and you would only move on the ones who haven't shown they are up to it. That is probably only another 2 or 3. The rest of the young ones seem to have shown something and may well be worth persevering with instead of changing them for more from the lotto in the draft. 

If you think we will get rid of 8 can you name them?

I don't think it's a matter of currently naming such players. That's for the delist thread. I understand it's an unfamiliar position for us to think in terms of not simply cutting from the bottom and trading out non-performing players but you're constantly looking to upgrade on the list by averages. We may well trade out performing players and players with potential to gain an overall slight upgrade. Then, with list depth, there are the decent players who might seek opportunity elsewhere - another unfamiliar position. There is also the issue of long-term cap management - where we move investment from one area of the field to another e.g. sacrifice a Watts for a Prestia, where we feel we can get a better return on the spread (probably somewhat like those fantasy football games).  Oddly, this may see us keep players without market value like JKH ahead of others we wouldn't expect.

as far as trading in players, Id say KPF/2nd ruck is one of our biggest needs if not the biggest.  Dawes, Pedo are not upto it. Weed and Hullett will not be impacting games this year or next at the least.  they should play some games next year but they wont get us to finals

Put Frost down back with Mac brothers and Dunn, Garland and draft a young defender

We need a proper target up fwd to complement Hogan

Don't disagree 55, perhaps you could add JFK and Dawes if he can't get on the park this season. However with lots of young players and a developing list, we need depth to cover injuries and fatigue. These guys all provide that depth and having the option to bring in seasoned players over the season as well as having their presence on the training track is a good thing. These guys provide a nice balance to all the young guys on our list.

We will upgrade Max King and leave Wagner on the rookie list even if he plays every game from now on. He would then enter next season as a rookie and be upgraded and available to play then. This enables us to keep both players and is in line with how the club has operated in the past.

With that logic, why would another club want him? Trengove won't/effectively cannot be traded. He will stay.

Terlich is done, Garland might be done and Dunn could also be in the firing line. M Jones has showed promise this year but I think he may also be in danger. JKH showed so much promise in his first year... what has happened? May also be a candidate.

All very good considerations. Some have mentioned Dawes, I agree that if he can't get on the park he'll be gone at the end of the season. If he can get a run, I wouldn't be against trying him down back. Slightly heavier that Robbie Tarrant but could see him playing a similar role in defence.
