I know...we're only just over a 1/3 of the way through the season and we're 4 and 4.  Poised to go who knows where.

Since Roos and his team of merry men have arrived the list has been turned over in a wholesale fashion. Come seasons end the Circus comes to town. There's the main attraction in the big Draft tent and theres the thrill of the spill and lure of the prize in SideShow -trade Alley and who knows what one may find in the Rookie Showbags.

Be a fan fan of the carnival or not, the show WILL go on and we will be there. Like may an event there's an entry fee and to this one  its  space'. No not the last frontier  but available spots on the clubs playing list. There has to be some. The local Sheriff insists you play at least to the minimal extent.

Over the last few seasons our appetite for change has been big but just like someone who's sat down to a hearty meal  the impetus to continue  feasting may have abated but none the less whether its that one more little mint  or an Aperitif something must be ordered.

What are we going to peruse on the menu and who's departure will be required to  make a little room.

Some consensus  among D-Landers  goes to the following. It may or may not be actually what the FD think we need, it's just what we do.

My interpretation is that we are short a tall forward.Someone to slot in with  Hogan  ( bless his little heart after he signs )  and Watts. Some suggestions are that this style of player is already on our list just needs a bit more developing. Do we rest on laurels ?

Our once 'raved about' defense" has now been shown to be wanting if the Diamond is to sparkle and shine. My thinking is we need a ready to go Full Back to release  T Mac to less arduous responsibilities. Another key back to add depth and insurance would be a smart move for mine. Some on our list dont quite seem to be there ( if ever )

Our ruck stocks could be badly exposed if that 'I" word surfaces....so shhhhh !!  Some  observers would suggest we have some projects already on board.

Which ever way you come to this some  places have to be opened up. Some hard calls ( and some not ) will need to be made.

So Roll up , Roll up  and play the game. You sir....what will it be ?  Madam, what's you flavour of choice ??

How many ....and who  is most likely to get that tap on the shoulder ?

JKH is gone unless he can learn how to play like Jetta

If I remember rightly we need to select three in the draft onto the primary list.

My three to go are:

1 - Terlich. Hasn't really come close to the senior side for quite a while although reports are he is improving. Is he improving enough?

2 - Mitch King. Seems a way off seniors so delisted to go back to the rookie list  Got my kings mixed up and as Max is already a rookie it is hard to make space on the primary list from putting him back to be a rookie. Don't have a third player in mind now then.

3 - JKH - May be given another chance as his body has let him down this year. For him to stay he needs to be the next small defender behind Jetta.

Others who may be lucky to stay

Garland - As much as I love this bloke the game seems to be going past him as we watch. He must offer leadership and is in the leadership group. Would we delist a member of the leadership group?

Grimes - Is now a depth player and getting on in years. May well be kept around to share experience to the younger players. Would it be better developing a new youngster in his place?

Trengove - Would love to see him come back into the seniors and be best 22, what if he can't?

Dawes - Old concrete hands may be saved by Frost not coming along as forward as I am sure the coaches hoped.

I  went kpb but if Oscar comes along our Dunn regains form it would be secondary to a player who can hokd their own as a second ruck. Pedo os not rhe long term answer.

I would be super mighty surprised if we have a list turnover of less than six at season's end.

I would considering we don't have a first round pick available (at this stage).

Did you mean Max King? We only drafted Mitch this year

I think you have to delist/trade 5 players out and use a minimum 3 picks in the National draft. A club can redraft or rookie a delisted player. Dawes is reputedly on $500k a year. If he stays it will be reduced a fair bit. If he can get fit and injury free there would be some other clubs interested - so he will have some currency. Pederson will likely stay on a slightly reduced contract as well. Cannot see both staying as we have Frost and a couple of developing KFP's.

can always trade next years if a beneficial opportunity arises, specially with gws who might like to stockpile picks for the future

Manny surely you jest.

When he is gone would be a better comment IMO.

It seems doubtfull he will get on the Park to prove anything olisik.

I think he is for the high jump.

From my memory in our very ordinary sides of a couple of years ago he played a quarter of good football here and there.

Not AFL standard and Body wont let him get on the park.

All over for mine.

Good thread bb.

Can I put in an early request that if someone disagrees with a player's name mentioned for trading/delisting, it is not responded to with snide remarks, losing one's bottle, personal insults, or anything that leads to a thread derail. A simple counterargument will suffice. Cheers.

Is one of Jesse's best mates. Just saying. Also has some outside pace, though not electric and can snag a goal.

Not saying I agree, but I think one of Garland and Dunn will be left out of the team from mid way through the season and won't get a look in for the rest of the year, and then be delisted at year's end. In the same way Jamar was last year. I get the feeling it might be Dunn.

Potentially Grimes could be in the same boat as above also.

And although he is carving it up in the VFL, if Ben Newton gets a couple of games and doesn't impress, he could be in danger also (I am assuming he is out of contract at year's end, but could be wrong).

So do Kennedy and Garlett Mr. Leg and they are both taller than him admittedly not by much.

IMO a  short average player who is injured constantly, gone for mine.

Garland has a contract for next year Dunn does not so by your reckoning FD Dunn is for the high jump.

On a good day ( and fit ) I like what he brings. He has a bit of flair, knows where the sticks are etc. I just wonder if he already been trumped ( sts ) ?

Its starting to get a crowded in the forward arc. If we take Hogan and Watts as given. If we suggest Kent and Garlett also then there are two possies. One must be for that 2nd Tall imho. Leaving one.  Until he builds a tank it has to be the Truck surely..Where does Harris get to slip in ? Thats the rub

You always need more players than spots to cover injuries.

Don't think we will have a massive turnover this year. We have too many new kids who have come in and need time. My guess is 4-6 players at most.

Red my guess is 4-6 also.. minimum dip in the draft and clever use of draft coin ( picks  - trading etc ) to focus on snagging ready t go's in the franzy aka Trade week .

Given Harris has paperwork through til end of next season  he would seem to be safe for now, and depth only

Players who might be a little concerned...just a s a list and ion no order

M King , Terlich, Newton ,Grimes, M Jones

Trade week could be fascinating ;)

Contracts Have had the final year bought out before bb.

And his would not be high, basic I would think.

If the club wants you off then they usually get their way.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
