POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 8

Just not on today, happens with young sides. Could not hold a mark and the lack of vision at time was disappointing. The club can take a few of the decisions to the umps mid week. Garland just has no conference and needs time at casey.

Our fumbles and turn overs hurt us today. A lot of easy marks dropped. This is what we really need to clean up. We had a dip but they were just to slick for us. That throwing manoeuvre they have perfected and get away with it constantly.

The better team won, here are my observations:

  • Hogan's kicking is bordering on embarrassing, Schwarz was on the money
  • Everyone could see that the Bulldogs tall forwards would give us trouble yet we persist with an undersized Garland while Frost plays for Casey
  • Just like the St Kilda game our zone defence was found wanting, if in doubt we need to go man-on-man
  • Viney is a star
  • Jetta is a gun, fingers crossed he isn't suspended
  • Pedersen was terrible, will probably be suspended, hopefully the coaches don't then decide to replace him with Frost up forward
  • We were fumbling the ball all day and overused it way too much
  • Watts improved but it was too little too late, goes missing when he game is on the line
  • The Bulldogs duck better than anyone but we were still too dumb to pick up on this and adjust how and when we tackled
  • We can't expect Gawn to dominate every week

Why do we insist on kicking it high to Garlett. He is a crumber not a key forward.

Oliver is a jet.

petracca showed more.

Gawn showed that he is human.

viney is elite.

Garlett very rarely wins the overhead mark.

The Gawn factor was gone. Helooked cooked.

Umps did not pay many against dogs.

Dogs pressure way too good.

A great full forward needs to kick easy shots

Effort was there. (BTW, thanks for deleting that idiotic 'Same Old S***' thread mods).
Clean disposal and finishing was not.
Against top 4 opposition, this equation will mostly end in a five goal loss.
The clean disposal and finishing will came with wiser, older heads and harder and more mature bodies.
I'm not suggesting we be happy with the result nor that the results will just come because of experience and not because of effort. I just think we need to be realistic and acknowledge where we really are.
We are now 4 and 4. Carlton, who many expected to finish bottom or second bottom, have the same amount of wins. We need to turn up next week with our A game against the Lions.

we shouldn't have won but what was the count? the 50s were ridiculous too

It was 14 to 7 with 10 mins to go, surprisingly we got a string of frees in the last 10 minus to finish at 16 to 12 or so. Obviously the umpire boss got in their ear and said to even it up as the frees we got hadnt been paid all day

Not surprising when you think harmes,  hunt,  clarrie and tracca have only played a couple of games each. Once we get a few more games into this group the difference in class will be bridged

Set shots killed us and any chance of getting a roll on too

Beaten by a better side today that was showing a bit more skill and polish then the Dees. There will be a few spots opening up for the players that performed at Casey. Would expect to ANB get a run.

They are way to fast in there rebounds for us.

I hate that the Bulldogs have only taken 5 years to be competing for a flag again we have taken 10 year to be competing for 8th spot.

The way the dogs drop into tackles and throw the ball out of congestion is amazing. Cannot believe there hasn't been a league enquiry. It's so plain to see them do this over and over again every week.

It was really noticeable today. I know it's so fast and the umps can't see but sheesh!

Jack is my favourite player (absolutely love him) and he was pretty good again. However, with just a couple of his 'see ball get ball efforts' he needed to be called out of the contest by players in better positions.

Like norf the flogs must train to duck when tackled , they make it an art form of positioning for free kicks. ..playing smarter than us. Like european soccer players milking penalties

Only noticed a couple of head high frees for that today which isn't too bad. It was the throwing and tackling people without the ball that had me stumped.

Bulldogs were the better team. Simple as that. That being said, there is no doubt that they had some assistance from the umpires.

Thought Stretch played his best game for the club while Viney and Tyson were our two best midfielders.

Jetta continues to amaze me in how he can stand up and complete well with tall forwards while someone like Garland is so easily beaten.

Thought Watts (who as of today, is the only player on our list to kick 100 goals for the club) and McDonald both recovered after lacklustre first halves.

Gawn wasn't his normal self today and it impacted on the result. There were some uncharacteristic dropped marks that he would usually clunk easily.

Michie wasn't bad either. Looked OK at half back.

Our defence certainly needs some attention. Not sure if the idea would be overly popular but I wouldn't giving Hogan a crack at CHB for a couple games just to assist in stemming the flow while gaining some form back in the process (although minus a couple of missed set shots, I thought he was ok today)

Dissapointing loss but nothing to overreact about. Boys will come out firing against the Lions next week. Go Dees!

We thought we were good at contested ball. They are much better.

Either we don't have the players or the set-up of the zone defence is not working.

Even if you are getting beaten you can stay in the game by converting easy set shots. Hogan looking at you. Not good enough.

The difference was just a little bit of polish, we fought hard but they Bulldogs are a very good side.

Jetta is easily our best defender

Hogan played a good game but needs help with his kicking, he's letting the side down with it.

Really impressed with the young mids today, thought Tyson, Viney, Petracca, Oliver and Stretch showed a lot today! the future is very bright.

I would rather see us give Frost or Omac an extended run down back than Garland, he's totally out of form and not best 22.

we missed the pressure Dean Kent puts on today! hopefully welcome him and H back next week for some more speed

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
