Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Player Managers (Dears) would be saying to Hogan play out next season, if they (Melb) don't get anywhere in 2017, you have given them another season, that's enough to see whether or not they were going to be any good. You have honored your obligations, now for the Big Time.

Little known fact. In the media world, esp "print" media, single quote marks in the headline (as opposed to double quotes ...  ' ' vs "" ) means the person didn't really say it, and a subeditor paraphrased, sometimes very loosely, what the person actually said.

A convention made up by and for the media and passed into standard usage without anyone being any the wiser.

That's 'pretty much what I was saying'.

If he just keeps his mouth shut and then declares next year that he wants out, we get screwed. We have the option of taking whatever is offered for him or watching him walk for free in the PSD. While in theory any club can take him with their pick before Freo, the reality is that, as with Luke Ball, no club will waste a pick to get him for one year on an inflated contract. The only way to derail this is if the MFC had an earlier pick and redrafted him out of spite.

The above scenario is why several of us are advocating for an early tade this year. Right now we can get a fair trade for him and maximise our return. Waiting is a gamble, and we've lost that bet more often than we've won.

As for Jesse, he's a professional athlete. He needs to be aware of these factors and how they influence the thinking of the club and fans. His manager is going to push him to wait and play it entirely selfishly so as to maximise his potential earnings (and the agent's commission). He should be aware that everything his agent tells him is coming from that angle. Obviously, we would prefer that he acted with integrity and looked after the interests of the club that has invested so much in him whether he stays or goes.

Question. If nothing eventuates during this trade period and by the end of next year, Hogan does not re-sign and has requested to go home. What if Freo have nothing to trade with us - No decent picks or quality players. Can they get Hogan for nothing?

So ralph there is every chance the club will not force his hand. You obviously think they should.

No offence here but ill back the fd here as to what the best approach is rather than posters on a footy forum.

I'm not at all offended. I would love him to stay on and sign a long-term deal with the club. But right now with things as they stand, recent history says we're going to get shafted.

If Fremantle are the big time, I'll eat my shoe. We're on the way up, they are in free fall.

STMJ called for Garland to be moved on last year and was shot down by most. Many hid behind by the "I'm prepared to back the footy department in", 12 months on Garland has 2 years left and can't buy himself a game.

As I said in an earlier post, the whole "wait for the CBA line" is garbage for a player who stands to get a million dollars a season. And if its not garbage then he obviously isn't worried about team balance.

I didn't buy Roo's line about "if he knew a player was leaving he wouldn't play him" after Frawley continued to rack up cheap games.

The club needs to start talking to Peter Wright, time for us to start working the angle on players who "may" want to come home.

Then I'd say you have never listened to Roosy in the media, or spoken to him personally

I am one who trusts the Footy Dept, if Jesse leaves, they will have plans a to whatever in place for any eventuality

A lot on here don't seem to deal with uncertainty very well. The attitude seems to be "the suspense/boredom is killing me so just get rid of him". Nothing's really changed except Melbourne has stopped playing games so no-one has anything else to talk about.

Saty, i can recall Roo's getting asked the question and his response was just that, "if I thought a player was leaving I wouldn't play him",

No I've never met him.

Out of interest, was it Roo's first season as coach when he started to play Chip forward, now at the time Hogan was out for the season but the thought process was "preparing the backline for life after Chip".

A lot on here don't deal with a wide range of circumstances, they are girding their loins for the eventuality of Jesse leaving, and then we can have a couple of hundred pages of 'I told you so', if he leaves you do realise the sky will fall

To be fair a lot of posters (not just from this forum) have implored the club to force his (Hogan's) hand. This is mainly due to Freo having an early pick. Taking that into consideration I think it is reasonable to expect the club to ask the hard question. But at the end of the day Jesse does have a contract, and he is perfectly entitled to see that contract out - whilst he weights up his options.

I asked him to his face chap, coz I was interested in whether it was just media speak, the answer was along the lines of what his mantra has been 'it is us, you either want to be one of us, or you don't" said it would harm the culture if he was seen to be playing somebody who going forward didn't want to be there, also Frawley turned up to training and games fully invested, in other words he didn't give the impression that he had made up his mind to leave. I have stated before I don't think he (Frawley)  knew what he was going to do till the season ended, and then Hawthorn said 'come win a premiership'

What's with the "chap"?

Everyone knew he was gone, Roo's had limited options and we had to play him.

I actually think the club pushed Frawley out the door with a low-ball contract offer, knowing that pick 3 was on the table as compo. And I agree that Frawley was fully invested in the club, but knew the writing was on he wall.

The comment that Roos made is hypocritical and out of touch with reality.

You asked for more information, I asked Roos the question and I just posted what he told me, maybe with a bit of paraphrasing, don't really care what other posters think especially Colonel Blimp and his chief cheerleader, keep saying you are entitled to your opinion, I am entitled to mine

As for Jesse, we will have any contingency covered

I agree with the first paragraph, but disagree with your second. Roos made those comments to set an expectation, to scare players. He's a smart football person and knew that we had to keep playing Frawley to ensure we got maximum comp. You're smarter than this Mo.

That may be the case, but he's just treating players as children. Player movement is a part of football, and always has been. Roos' comment served no purpose because in reality, he'd never go ahead with the threat.

just showed interview with hogan's management on ch9. he said unequivocally that jesse still undecided on staying and will wait to see how melb go next year and that he is still drawn to mates and family in perth

and so the distracting media circus will continue daily well into next year

(if his management is to be believed)

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
