Just heard on SEN from Jon Ralph that Jesse Hogan deal will be announced today!!!

He didn't say that.

He said he thought it looked more likely (Hogan staying at Melbourne) but he didn't say anything about it being announced today.

I can see how ProDee gets frustrated with people misquoting television and radio interviews.

See my edited post.

do you think comprehension is still taught in school or is it all "reading between the lines now"? It is very frustrating that posters interpret a quote their own way but still attribute it as a quote.

Qwerty deserves a ban for it.  If he has made his own conclusions and gotten our hopes up like that then a long holiday from Demonland should be on the cards.  Poor, poor form.

To expand slightly he said

his old man has told him to go do what he wants to do, ( staying in Melbourne rather than returning home to Perth)

Melbourne were/are extremely confident

He's never once given Fremantle any indication he wants to play there and he suspects the talk is trying to drive his pay day up a bit.

absolutely zero about an announcement date, but it sounds as though it's either already signed or he's going to sign in the very near future.

no mention of years or terms of the deal.

Ralph said he thinks Hogan will be  signing in  the next two weeks.

Ralph  said the opposite earlier so  believe what you will.

Said his(JH) Dad wants him to do what he wants to do.

Believes a Two year deal will be announced meaning till the end of 2019

FWIW... afl.com.au's take on the speculation..

Draft selections: 26, 44, 62, 80
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: Jack Grimes, Matt JonesDean Terlich

AFL.com.au says: Michael Hibberd is first on the shopping list with the club and player committed to each other. Selection No.26 should be enough to get Hibberd, although Essendon has been historically tough to deal with at trade time. Beyond that the Demons are expected to be relatively quiet, with Jesse Hogan's signature remaining a priority. Although the industry was abuzz last week that he had re-committed, both parties poured cold water on that speculation. The Demons will want another ruckman to support Max Gawn while they are open to trading Lynden Dunn to the Brisbane Lions.

It sounds as though that sentiment was taken from Healy's reference to Hogan's management last week, which turned out to be third hand anyway.

KingSlayer, I think the driver is more the social media driven obsession with relevance / fame.  You see it manifest itself across every facet of society....just an irrepressible need to be first at something, first with something....to the point where there is no compunction with fabricating a story line or misrepresenting "facts".   I just shake my head.......

I think people should remind themselves that this is a public forum.

It's not just other posters who read our posts, there are many many more guests, and outsiders who are hungry for info.

Please think about what you are about to post, as almost every day, I read some truly embarrassing stuff in this thread.

Stop quoting what you want to happen, and start quoting what has actually been said, by a real person.

@Whispering_Jack @Nasher and the rest of the mod team - can you guys put in a rule for the next month that posters get a ban of some sort for posting information, or passing on info from radio/TV interviews etc, that is completely wrong?  @qwerty gave us info that was totally wrong and it's a bloody waste of our time.  How we gleaned that there would be an announcement today from the Jon Ralph interview is totally beyond me.

Spoke to my contact last night and to cut a long story short Jesse will be playing for MFC next year and club is more than confident we will get a signature this week.

Your 'contact' doesn't seem to like providing useful information. I mean given he is contracted for next year and Goodwin has made it clear they won't be looking to trade this year it is harldy news Hogan 'will be playing for MFC next year'. As for being more than confident about getting a signature this week could your 'contact' be any less equivacol?

By the by if they announce his signing this week you can be sure the deal was done last week or even earlier making your 'contact' at best out of the loop, at worst?

I was passed on the info from a friend and should have realised he would have embellished it with the today and certainty of Ralph's comments... Sorry for that, but I wasn't trying to take the 'pizz' or get everyone's hopes up.

To suggest a ban from a hardly sinister comment is quite frankly ridiculous. I think you all need to relax, I was just so excited that I failed to check the validity of the comments before posting.

AND, even so, what I said isn't entirely false excluding the 'today' aspect. Ralph was still very, very confident that Jesse will be signing on with the Dees, so I think that is still something worth posting.

It's simple, you just need to qualify the comments, if you don't know they are accurate just say so.

I think we have to ban Jon Ralph from using Demonland as an authentic source of information.

I'm sure qwerty7 was just excited and forgot to check Clint.

Dont think he will do it again but give him a break he's a newby.

Its not like he is a serial offender.

The other thing i was a bit annoyed about was Ralph mentioning the nature of Jesse's old mans illness, unless Jesse has said himself it's fine, surely he could just say personal matters, really silly move on his part and i would hope the MFC makes contact with him and tells him to keep his mouth shut about the players personal issues if it doesn't need to be mentioned.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
