Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Im not rewriting history. That's laughable. So is introducing strawman arguments.

No bigger stage than a GF.

Be interesting to compare , should Hogan get to play finals, irrespective for whom.

A different tempo and pressure than h & a

You make your name in Grand Finals.

To everyone except MFC supporters Boyd in a $million player who was instrumental in helping his side win a GF the first for 60+ years.

It matters not what Hogan has done Boyd is the top dog.

At this point it would appear Boyd has many more finals games to go.

Jessie has yet to play in one and probably won't till at least 2018 let alone be instrumental in winning a GF.

Boyd has the Chocolates at this point IMO.

By my reckoning, Redleg, it's been a string of finals culminating in a great Grand Final performance.

Pity the stats don't support you.

He is a 200cm forward/ruckman on $1m plus a year.

No goals in first 3 finals.

3.5 kicks ave in first 3 finals. 3 marks ave in first 3 finals. 15 disposals in first 3 finals ( not bad )

Hitouts 12 ave in first 3 finals.

Anyway he has a medallion in his best game.

Can we go back to the days of having two Hogan threads? One for his contract and another for all other Hogan (or should that be Boyd) stuff. The other thread was called "The Incredible Hulk: Jesse Hogan" but has disappeared into oblivion.

Would make things easier for those that come into this thread with no interest in reading through inane debates and are just anxious about Hogan re-signing or being traded soon. I can't be the only one in that boat.

Mathew Pavlich hasn't made his name in a winning grand final, is Boyd better than him also?

what about Nick Rewoldt?

he played a great game but surely common sense says that you judge a player on a body of work, not just 1 or 2 games

Actually, there's a Hogan thread on the main board as part of our 2016 Season Review series. Hogan was first up because of his jumper number.

Interesting stat and typical of the Bulldogs, about 13.5% of Boyd's possessions come from the umpires while about 5.5% of Jesse's do. Put even simpler, 1 in 7 of Boyd's possessions is a free kick while 1 in 19 of Jesse's is. Maybe if Jesse was a Bulldog he would have a lot more goals and possessions.

Sadly the general football public grade you according to the winning games you play in and your contribution.

Nothing that Jessie has played in comes close to the Game yesterday. As I said he has the chocolates and Jessie has a lot of "if"

On that basis, Cowan of Geelong is one of the greatest players to have ever played the game.

OD, personally I find this comparison nonsense boring and doesn't belong on here, but I think you will find the 'general public' regards great players as players who perform at a very high standard consistently, agreed some of them may win more games than other players including finals, but a lot don't, eg Harvey and Riewoldt from Saints

Boyd has now set his bar, let's see if he can  replicate it on a consistent basis

Same with Jesse

I raised Boyd because he can kick from 50, which is something Hogan struggles with.

as people are talking about contract size and his importance to the team, it was a point of difference that Boyd has over Hogan. We know what Boyd is paid.  Hogans value for mine would double if he could finish off from outside the arc.

I see them as very different players.

looking forward to JH's situation being resolved, and everyone getting on.

Who gives a stuff?  Seriously.  Boyd plays one decent game and we resort to analysing stats and debating who is better.  What in God's name is the point?

Someone wake me up when a decision is made.  This thread is becoming a joke, if it hadn't become one already.

Redleg, I don't need to read his H & A stats to know that he was an absolute gun in the finals. I watched every final he played. This is not to say that Hogan can't do the same (I truly believe he can) but Boyd's been a revelation come finals time. The GF was not a one off. And I don't particularly like him.

Premiership medallion. Hogan 0, Boyd 1.

And that is all Hogan's fault and all Boyd's credit.

Do you think if Jesse was a Bulldog, he might have a medallion today?

Redleg, I don't need to read his H & A stats to know that he was an absolute gun in the finals. I watched every final he played. This is not to say that Hogan can't do the same (I truly believe he can) but Boyd's been a revelation come finals time. The GF was not a one off. And I don't particularly like him.

Actually they included his finals stats as well.

Well we can agree to disagree on whether Boyd was an absolute gun in the finals.

I don't think he was.

I think he played a great game in the GF.

Couldn't disagree more.

I thought Boyd was great yesterday and he did it on the biggest day of the football calendar.

If you want to argue who has accomplished more - no brainer - footy is a team game and there is no higher prize than a premiership.

If you want to argue who has been the better player over the course of their short careers - it is also a no brainer in my opinion - Hogan.

I congratulate Boyd on a fantastic game but up until the final series he had been very ordinary with many pundits questioning him and one even suggesting he renegotiate his contract for less money as it was affecting him. He played a serviceable final series up unto the GF and played an absolute pearler in the big one This might be Tom Hawkins revisited - a break out game leading to a prosperous career - however i am not going to revise what has been, on balance, a fairly poor return up until yesterday.

I've never seen someone actively campaign against a player like this before.  You should be ashamed of yourself.

And if we're going by 'stats', then it's clear Hogan is on top.  130 more touches, 100 more marks, 27 more goals... the list goes on.

I do like how we forget that Boyd stunk it up all year because he played one good game in the finals.  He was poor, at best, all year up until 24 hours ago.

Boyd at $1mil, versus Griffen (or equivalent trade value) and pick 6.

I wouldn't say it was 'no Boyd no premiership'. Especially given the Dogs recent recruiting performance. And indeed, just on the value of pick 6, the story is they were looking at either Peter Wright or Jake Lever, both of whom have outperformed Boyd by a respectable margin. Reference

Would we be happy enough with Hogan = equivalent of Ryan Griffen + Pick 6? Would we probably work out with a better list position on paper in that event?

Probably.

And yet, I'd rather Hogan choose to stay and I'd rather the team hold together to build something special.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
