Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

There's a general sentiment here in the Frost/Pedo discussion that Frost has a higher ceiling compared to Pedo who is currently offering slightly more. While I don't necessarily disagree, some food for thought - Pedo has only played 50 or so games and is just into his 6th season without having had a great run at it (and while playing in multiple positions).

He seems to have a lot of the right tools and ranks highly in league contested marks but rather than impact games just pops up here and there. He also seems to be still improving a bit this year after making a decent jump when Roos first came on board. Forgetting his age while also noting the old adage about big men taking longer, is it possible we haven't yet seen Pedo anywhere near his best and it could still all just click at some stage?

Pedersen only has 56 games but he's 29 years old.  His scope for further development is limited, not withstanding his low game count.

Stop-gap player.  I like him and think he'll spend most of this year in the team, but if he makes it to 100 games it's either a fantastic effort, or something has gone very wrong with our developing players (the Kings, Hulett, Weideman etc).

Remember this team ?  Paul Roos' first team.

Round 1, 2014

Terlich ~ Frawley ~ Grimes
Dunn ~ T.McDonald ~ Vince
Toumpas ~ Watts ~ Tyson
Bail ~ Fitzpatrick ~ Cross
Byrnes ~ Pedersen ~ Howe
R: Spencer ~ N. Jones ~ Trengove
I/C: Michie ~ M. Jones ~ Kennedy-Harris ~ Georgiou
E: Nicholson ~ Blease ~ Evans

7 of those players played last week.  14 are still on the list, though 6 are currently well off the pace now.  It's been an amazing turnaround.

Anyone who goes to traIning or regularly posts here knows that Petracca and Brayshaw are very close.  They were drafted together and while their journey has been different they've clearly got a very close bond.  Brayshaw would be desperate to run out with Petracca in his first game.

I'm not sure if clubs take these things into account, but for many here, including me, there's a feeling that Brayshaw won't share this moment.

There's some terrific footage of the two of them when the were drafted. The bond was apparent then. Funny buggers taking the pi55 out of each other. They will play a lot of footy together over the next ten years. Like many though, I don't think it will be this week.

For whatever reason, fitness, position being played in, interrupted preparation, Gus is out of form. Not just his lack of involvement, there was the dropped mark, missed handballs. Very un-Brayshaw like. So for mine he goes back to Casey to run into some form. Shouldn't take too long. He's too good a player

On the Frost / Pedo debate I favour Pedersen if it comes to a choice. I've suggested that Frost is way overrated on this forum and have questioned what he brings to the table aside from a lot of chasing. In the past two weeks though he's showed glimpses of what he might offer as a hit-up forward target. His hands though make Dawes look like Dunstall. Hopefully that area of his game will improve with experience and confidence. In comparison I think Pedersen offers an equal contribution forward but is better in the relief ruck role. He works better around the ground and gets back quickly to assist the defence where he has been taking contested marks

We've got 3 "second tall forward" types that each have different shortcomings. If we had one with Dawes' nous and aggression, Frost's pace and athleticism and Pedo's hands and feet you would have a helluva player !

Then scratch Fitzy and Tmac after quarter time? To add to Jamar, Clark, Hogan, Dawes & Gawn already on the sidelines . . .

I do too Nasher.

If his form holds up I would not be surprised if  he got another 1 year deal for 2107.

The guys you list above are going to take a little time.

I think 2018 is the time they should be ready to shoulder the load.

I'd be shocked if Pedersen wasn't offered another 1 year deal for 2017. The developing key forwards look miles off being regular senior players. Weideman looks like the most likely talent wise, but he looks like he needs another 12 months before you'd consider him AFL ready.

Agreed.  At this stage I'd be expecting Pedersen to going around again in 2017 for sure - I can't see the baby forwards at Casey having permanently displaced him before that.  The club would be hoping Weideman or Hulett would be pushing for selection in the back end of this season though and a semi-regular part of the team by next year.

With regard to Pedersen, I think he brings a lot to the team at present and like the way that the coaching team send him down the back every now and then. it seems to be a tactic we employ a lot. one of the forward talls go down there as a floating free man. Either Hogan, Watts or Pedersen get back there and it still leaves us with a strong tall presence up forward.

Get another 44 games into him and turn him out to stud.

Anyone else think Oliver was stiff to miss? Rested, and his spot is gone. I knew Matt Jones would struggle to get back in after being rested for general soreness but Oliver hasn't put a foot wrong yet and has been our best tackler.

Amazed no one is recommending Kennedy for the chop. He has been ordinary for a few weeks now. Would have to come close.

A few weeks? No way. I think his worst game was the Richmond game but I thought his first month was solid.

The kind of role he's playing, though, he needs to keep his impact high (ditto Petracca, Bugg, Harmes, Hunt and Wagner) because the competition for spots is high. But I don't think he's done a lot wrong so far.

He played about 10 seconds of the NAB up

Which may well explain why he is, at the moment, NQR.

He will be back with a vengeance sometime soon.

Maybe his knee still isn't 100% as well as general fitness.

Far too good to be out for any other reason.

Nope, was laughed at when I said it but I feel like they are really trying to ease the pressure on our young players.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
