GAMEDAY - Round 4

This is a massive game for us. No Vince and Garlett is a big blow for us, while VBD has started slowly so his absence won't be as damaging.

I know I am getting ahead of myself, but a win today, with the likes of Vince, Garlett, Petracca, a fit VDB, and a second tall forward in, gulp, Dawes or even Weidemann to come in over the next month or more, would set us up pretty nicely.

I am still seething at throwing away 4 points against Essendon, and then letting another 4 points slip away last weekend. As much as Collingwood have been under the pump, I would hope we are even more fired up.

For some reason i just cannot find the confidence for this game. I think Vince is a huge huge out along with Garlett who always plays well against them.

Playing Hunt and Wagner is the downfall for me personally. I know he is still young but Brayshaw seriously needs to step up and help fill the void left by Vince.

Huge game from McDonald and Dunn but im backing them.

Kent must back u his performance from last week and hit the scoreboard plus bring that forward pressure.

Still hearing whispers of another late change! Hope not!

Also nervous about this. With Vince and Garlett out, I don't think we can afford to lose another one of our key players, with Hogan the one the whispers seem to be about?

Could be a shaky game, just like Japan at the moment. Wasn't nervous about this game until this morning.

I lived in Kumamoto for a couple of years (hence the user name). Lots of friends and former colleagues still over there doing it tough at the moment. Really feel for them, and the city/region...it's an amazing place.

Back on topic. Very nervous about today's game, but that's not unusual. I hope Bernie being out doesn't hurt too much. Would love to see Ed's face turning red/purple as the result unfolds.

Jeez I hate 3pm games. I have to put up with lingering nerves all day. If I were an AFL footballer I'd definitely be the type that has a quiet spew on the boundary line during the warmup.

Pretty excited though. I've gone from supreme confidence after the North game, to overcompensating and going to water after seeing the inexperienced side we picked, to finally settling on the knowledge that if we bring the effort we brought last week, we should beat this woeful team, and if we don't, we won't. Our fate is in our own hands.

This. If anyone is struggling to see our progression, this is the difference compared to recent previous years.

Absolutely. "It is up to us to win" is certainly a better feeling than "I hope they have mercy on us" before the game.

In theory yes. But after the last 10 years i have more faith in the later!

Don,t like the way the press are promoting this game as do or die for Buckley

Why make Buckley the sole scapegoat? In my view it is Maguire who should be resigning (although it will never happen)!

Dees are out to $3.00 to win on sportsbet. love it. The beauty of playing Collingwood, they have some many supporters willing to put their money on them regardless of how well they are playing that the bookies have to shorten their odds on and try to entice more people to back Melbourne with longer odds otherwise they take a bath...  I am more than happy to take some of their money.

It would be nice if Kennedy kicked a few and Howe just gets his usual 3 possessions.

Was thinking Kennedy as well, but I also think the stage is set for Watts, their defence  isn't much chop at the moment. Would love him to bag 5.

Not feeling all that confident today, although that's more out of the fact that I think the Pies are much better than how they are playing at present.  Their side looks pretty good on paper, but they have crumbled under pressure.  They'll be fired up and we need to weather that early storm.

Unlike others I don't mind that Hunt and Wagner were selected.  I know they are inexperienced but they both played good footy at VFL level and have earned their chance.  I'll back them in to make a contribution.

As others have said, if we turn up to play then we win.  Our game style at the moment has us capable of kicking a good score and if Max gets on top and gives our boys first use then it will go a long way to us winning the game.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
