Very happy with today's result,  ball movement looking a lot better , forward line functioning well even with hoges having an off day & cracking the ton,  forward pressure has been a constant across the preseason and its making a big difference, Kennedy and bugg are looking like decent pick ups let's hope they keep it up.  Stoked that Oliver is ready made for Rd 1 , has great footy smarts that kid.  We can safely say that Watts has had a great preseason  (but keeping a lid on it tho !!!)

The main downside from today is that our kicking out of defence is still scratchy,  perhaps players still adapting to the new game plan,  seems like they have the right idea to move it quickly but just fall short on skill execution.

Also I know it's preseason but we've finally beaten the saints  (and at dock lands ) 2006 seems like a lifetime ago, it's been a long 10 years , but I think this club is now finally mentally competitive and have some belief. ..winning games sure helps, now let's get some pemiership points!

I thought we were quite ordinary apart from the few obvious standouts.

This isn't a negative comment, I think it's been a theme of the NAB cup, a lot of teams have looked ordinary but all kicked high scores. When was the last time we did that?

Biggest positive was running it out so easily, I've seen teams struggle this round in the final quarter, we did it as good if not easier than anyone.

Being in front in the last quarter with the interchange cap is going to be hugely important I feel.

Hogan better sign up now or he'll have to settle for decoy wages supporting Watts.

Re Hogan have to say that was what I was thinking. He had a shocker by his standards. Just sign a contract for whatever timeline suits if you are not sure and concentrate on your footy. Player managers stuffing up young players with too many business options to maximise their future income, really, how about getting established first, get the score on the board before you play contract games. Sorry old school thinking.

Still haven't seen a single minute of any of our NAB wins but nice to wake up again to a win.

Can we see a real difference in how we move the ball?

There is a resistance to run the ball up the wing using the boundary as defence.  Instead they are switching out of defence and running the ball by hand and foot through the corridor as well as the opposite wing.  When it works they look a million dollars but they were undone several times with bad kicks at point of instigation.  They are soooo much better than last year and look like a really competent team.

Kennedy, Bugg, Oliver, VDB, Kent...From now on, they will be known as "The rat pack"
Those 5 boys are going to give out some serious headaches this year.

Tyson sums it perfectly: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-03-13/we-achieved-what-we-wanted-tyson

-The midfielder said Melbourne’s good form had come off the back of strong contributions across the board.

-“We’re just getting a nice, even contribution,” he said

-“We’re sharing the load and playing pretty well as a group of 22 on the field at the moment.

-“I guess everywhere you look at the moment you’ve got confidence, which is a good feeling to have.”

In a word: TEAMWORK

Thought Tyson has a good solid game, and has tuned up nicely for Rd 1.

Good to see the Russian doing well for the Dons! Equal highest scorer at the moment!

At three quarter time they are 100 points down with there best possible side in.

There is some justice in the world after all.

He looked seriously down on himself watching the replay , even post match. Whilst that's good to see his competitive nature and setting high standards. ..I just hope Roosy & Co are all over this as we don't want Hoges to get the yips or lose confidence . Bottom line he had the effort and endeveavor today which is extremely important, yes he dropped a few sitters and missed a few gettable goals, but still got 2 and was unlucky with a few umpiring decisions. Great to see that even when it's not going his way he still works hard and doesn't drop his bundle

Harmes in the Round 1 Team. Kent ... not sure he's there yet.

Like what Bugg brings, but sooner or later, he'll have to improve his disposal/kicking, or be replaced by someone who doesn't.

Wagner still a way to go, but as observed above, he did improve in the second half. Seems to know what to do, but as with Bugg, disposal, disposal, disposal.

Frost still a work in progress. Like his mobility around the ground, but he needs to do more with it. A few (more) glimpses today though.

Getting harder to see a place or role for Grimes.

Let's hope Max Gawn stays fit and healthy.

Ignore the commentators/media, they have been out of the game too long and have their own agendas.

Our team has shown a very impressive improvement in getting/moving the ball - now it is time to capitalise on this improvement and refine the required skills and precision of movement.

Be happy - the Dees are on the climb!

It seems that the youngsters who may have been ordinary early, played pretty well as the game went on

salem played a great 2nd half, and Wagner looked v assured the further it went. Although he is making mistakes at present I also believe that O Mac will make it--he can get the ball

in the second half I saw a couple of disposal howlers by T Mac, Garland and Viney, but overall the kicking was pretty good.

cant understand why Frost is not doing more work in the ruck, unless they are still concerned about his foot injury

It was very interesting watching Hogan today, he still impacted the contest, kicked 2 goals, and played a key part in at least 2-3 i can think of, but he would say he had a poor game. The last quarter every time he dropped a mark he would look at his hands as iff to say "what the hell is wrong with me?" And it's a good question, he doesn't want to become a Cloke-like forward where he has to clunk a few marks early to have a good game. Ultimately even though he had a poor game by his standards he still created opportunities.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
