We beat them two years ago with half the list we have now. I see no reason why we should not win on again on Saturday.

Here are a few of reasons.

They have played a NAB game already.

They will be fielding a very strong side and we won't, with a number of our good players out.

It is over there.

That said who cares, I want no injuries and a good performance.

1) Footys Back!

2) No Injuries Please

3) Get a good glimpse at the kids/fringe players

4) No Injuries Please!

Dont care either way if we win or not as long as we're giving it a red hot crack.

No-one thinks that Adelaide are a 100+ point better team than the Weagles, so

all results in this series are to be taken with a very large handful of grains of salt..

lol..I don't think anyone doubts that for a second, BA.

The burning question is whether you will give him any credit if he plays well.

Yes mate I will, to be honest i think we need to look at him across all 3 NAB games then again for the home and away season should he be selected.

We play Port/Doggies/Saints so that's a good mix should they field competitive teams.

Wins would be handy for memberships I think it's an important part of our season.

Obviously first game against another side is always going to be interesting, but because Port will be fielding a strong side and we are too (the only unavailable players are those that are in rehab), it actually will be a game that gives more signals about the real season than most NAB Challenge games.

For me, the key things are:

Are we more attacking from defence and does Hunt (and possibly Wagner) help this situation or do they just add more clangers?

Will Gawn be able to dominate Lobbe (he has smashed us in the past) and can our midfield win the stoppages minus Vince and Jones - this is the other area Roosy/Goody have spent a lot of the pre-season finetuning?

The there's the question of whether our small forwards, with Kent and Kennedy, are more damaging than last year and able to instigate a dangerous press?

And will Tom Macs shoulder stand up and, assuming he plays on Westhoff, can we counter him as he normally smashes us as well.

Individually I will enjoy watching what they are doing with Grimesy and whether Oliver gets a run.

And like everyone I will enjoy watching VB and Angus and Buggy and who they inadvertently hurt via a massive tackle, and finally whether Watts lays a few tackles or just plays offence. And watching Jesse and whether he is petulant or proactive of course.

The fact is we are playing away against a side that is tipped to rebound into the top four this year - so a respectable loss would be a very good result. A win will see our odds of about $15 to make the finals drop, although we'd need to also beat the Dogs to have the media take our pre-season seriously.

Total assumption, but I would think so.  If Foxtel can show it then I see no reason why it won't be on the app as well.

Hard to see that having our two previous B&F winners and only senior mids out is "fielding a strong side". We've seen before what happens when Nathan Jones isn't present or having a bad day.

Also, it's a long bench, and there are bound to be moments, even long ones, when we have a fairly second-string side out there.

When is it expected that the side will be named?

Tomorrow!

Anyone think Weideman might get a run?  I feel as though he might miss out on selection, but it would be great to see him get even half a game in the NAB Cup at some stage.

Barn, I normally read what you say with interest, but I must disagree with this statement.

Going into a contest, even a pre season contest, with a weak, self preservation attitude, will end in tears. If you hit a contest softly, you will get smashed.

Port has played a game already, meaning their players have had a chance to get acclimatised against real opposition. If our blokes go in trying to protect themselves, we will likely end up getting a hiding on the scoreboard, and gaining a few injuries also.

By all means, don't expose underdone players, but the team taking the field must have an attitude of wanting to win the contest, regardless of its standing.

yeah faulty im hearing you and i agree but just saying there needs to be a carrot to generate real interest , over and out , :) ps for some picky school teacher i hope my grammar dosent make you lose it ,  bwaaaaa

Hey boys and girls.

I’ve never before set foot in 'lizbeth, but I’m going to risk the pearly-whites and pop over to Playford on Sat for a squiz. I know it’s televised, but anything in particular the people here would like me to keep a close eye on in person?

Would be very surprised if he's named against Port. However as you said, I'd expect to see him play half a game at some point during the NAB Challenge.

I've watched a couple of pre-season games on it so far, all have been available so I would assume this will continue to be the case.

That's it. Old Dee has been kidnapped and you are an imposter. Return him to Demonland now. We want our pessimistic Old Dee back.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
