Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Four Corners, February 1

8:30pm - 9:17pm:  Sarah Ferguson presents an investigation into the criminal networks that are threatening the integrity of sport, amidst the uproar over the match fixing revelations in tennis.

For DL's concerned about corruption, conflicts of interest and mismanagement in sport this may make interesting viewing.  The EFC saga may be mentioned as it was from an ACC investigation into criminal networks in sport that led to EFC's exposure in the first place.

Sarah Freguson is an outstanding journalist who pulls no punches.

That's not the argument. Everyone agrees they consented to being injected. The assault argument, if it proceeds, will be that Dank injected something they did not give their consent to and not what he told them he was giving them. As I've said before, there is no way the players could know what they were being injected with (and nor could any of us when a doctor says he or she is giving us a tetanus shot) as they don't have access to scientific equipment to test the product. Therefore they had to rely on what Dank told them he was doing, just like we rely on our doctors when they tell us what they're doing. To me, believing in Dank was an obvious error and effectively what EFC got done for in the Magistrates' Court and the reason for the governance penalty applied by the AFL.

Having said all that, though, I suspect the assault case is a long shot because of the difficulty in getting evidence from events which occurred 4 years ago.

If the players were unaware why didn't they mention what they were given during routine drug tests? Also could the Chinese swim team and Russian gymnasts use the assault argument? And if so what would it mean for the fight against drugs in sport if any athlete could simply argue that they were duped?

I don't have much time for Peter Jess, but if the assault case he's talking about against Dank actually proceeds and the players win, I can't see how the CAS convictions can stand. How could the payers be guilty of taking a banned substance when they were given it without their knowledge or consent, which is effectively what the assault argument is going to have to be.

However, getting the assault charge to stick...and having the case heard and all appeals exhausted is likely to extend a fair bit into the period of suspension anyway. It might, however, make a difference to the AFL Commission's decision as to what to do with Jobe's Brownlow win.

Irrespective of anything else, I hope the assault case proceeds. There needs to be a much higher level of accountability for charlatans people who work with supplements of questionable value and unknown longterm effects.

It comes down to the responsibilties o c the players, they can claim they have been assaulted by Dank as he injected them with things that werent not banned as he said, but they didnt check with ASADA so in the eyes of WADA they agreed to by injected with Thymosin, which they did, and just because Dank said it was not banned doesnt matter. The other unknown drugs would also count towards any potential charge, things like the horse drug

They consented to Thymosin.

They didn't check what it actually was, and hid it from the club doctor.

Not a leg to stand on, assault charge or not.

Also, the "charge Dank with assault" notion is trying to get the players to fall through the cracks between sports law and civil law, where the onus and level of proof are not the same. Even proving they were deliberately misled doesn't get them past the "you are responsible for what goes into your body" part of sports law/WADA code, Dank or no Dank.

Mr Dank must have been positively beaming as "his responsibility players" cruised out onto the ground in 2013 knowing how much bigger than the opposition they were, knowing how much longer they would be able to last than the opposition. The players themselves felt good because they knew they looked good. The opposition knew they looked really good too. Yes it was all good.

The only question I have at the moment is, if the Bombers are so good to behold why can't we see those treasured replays of 2013 just one more time, to feast our eyes on those poor souls, so their friends and rellies can see them in "action" again. Just where are those valued replays.

From Ancient Tiger on BF (tonight) talking about a phone call he had from a mate: "Dank did not say they were PEDs. He just told him the peptides he was giving them. He actually told him they were permitted substances. It was only after my friend asked me if I knew anything about these peptides that I found out that they were banned. I just performed an ASADA check at home. I emailed my friend back this information - an email I still hold today - time/date stamped March 2012. He rang Dank immediately, who paused on the phone and then in typical Dank fashion, said he never said such a thing. I don't have to spell anything else out in public as this information is available to the public already. It is in the CAS report if you care to read it.

... I might be a doctor but my friend definitely isn't. It is one of the reasons he asked me about these peptides. He had no idea what they were and back in March 2012, nobody outside of the bodybuilding industry and drug dopers knew what they were. We are all experts now but back then it was very different."

I like this post. You could be referring to (a) illegal peptides, (b) convicted felons and other assorted individuals who make compounds (c) Essendon Football Club senior staff (d) the AFL...and you'd be right.

Nothing went wrong at Essendon : Dank

Ah yes, the stalwart of idiocy that keeps on giving

"“I don’t think anything went wrong at Essendon,” Dank told 3RRR’s Party Show.

“I think the problem was that, when a certain amount of pressure was applied from certain members at the top of the AFL chain, the Essendon Football Club had to remain, I guess, within the bear claws of the AFL instead of having the courage to stand up.”"

I think this bozo actually believes his own rhetoric. I dont think many other so though !!

This gem ....

"As for what was given to players, which the CAS found was likely to be banned substance Thymosin beta-4, Dank said the suggestion that it was performance-enhancing was “laughable”.

“(ASADA needs to) go back to kindergarten,” he declared.

“I believe that the supplements program was a good program. It was certainly robust in governance. It provided a small cog in a much, much bigger wheel.”"

Enjoy the read folks......hilarious stuff. You'd reckon it was  'spoof'  created by the guys from Frontline or The Games

He'll trip up eventually.

" the suggestion that it's performance enhancing is laughable "

So he isn't denying that they took a banned supplement, just suggesting that it shouldn't be Banned? lol whether it's performance enhancing or not is irrelevant if they didn't take it, Mr Dank.

If it's OK, I look forward to seeing Jake Melksham at all sorts of events put on by Melbourne's sponsors.

Conversely, if they didn't enhance performance, what was the point of giving them to the players?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
