It should be "5-8".

How dare you question me sir? I'm just itching to try out the ban features of this software.

Realistically in the range 7 to 10 .................  woops!

The club has stated that we will play finals in 2016 but I still think we're at least a year away at best. However, that does not detract from the importance of this year. With the Goodwin era fast approaching, the club needs to show they are on the right track and improve on their 7 win performance last year.

Big year coming up.

Posted

I won't say we have an easy draw because I thought that last year, what we do have is a draw that is favourable with regards to teams played.

The bigger question for me is have the players realised they have to turn up every week, until then who bloody knows.

We are still 12 months away from real depth.

Posted

I think we are a genuine chance to make the 8. Overall, I thought we played our best footy this year against the better teams. Soon as we can figure out how to win all of the games we should, we wont be far off September at all.

Can't remember the last time I was this excited for the upcoming season!

Posted

I have an absolute confidence that we'll play finals next season.

Now, where did I put my beer...

Posted

I know the club said finals next year, but I think that is a touch optimistic.  I'd be happy to finish just above Richmond, preferably with Collingwood and Geelong a few spots further back.

Posted

Realistic guessing, "11-14".

Btw, I clicked the "View Results" button and a warning came up that after viewing results I wouldn't be able to vote!?!    Curious if that's how it should be?

Posted

So how do I see who voted what? Curious who has us top 4, admire the optimism but can't see it myself.

I voted 9-12 and will be disappointed if we can't get there. The club clearly has expectations, for the first time in a long time being competitive doesn't seem to be the goal anymore. Wins and finals are where we're aiming now. I won't be upset if we miss out by a few games but I expect us to be at least in that 9-12 group knocking on the door. Anything less will be a failure.

I wouldn't dare suggest that PJ was lying to us when he said finals in 2016. I also am supremely optimistic!

The way we win more games is by playing at the level that we are capable of for four quarters. Let's hope for a big preseason from our young list, (especially Oliver who I would love to see debut alongside Petracca and Trengove)!

Can only see us finishing above Carlton, Brisbane, Essendon & St Kilda

Will be fighting with & around the same mark as Suns & Pies.

The teams that we got close to catching last year either had bad years with injury or have since improved more in the trade period than us inc Geelong who will rise up significantly. Power are far better than they showed last year & GWS also I think have more upside.

We still have far to many deficiencies in the Ruck department & a average forward line except Hogan

So for mine around 8 wins & anywhere between 12th & 14th

I reckon that we will also finish above the Suns and GWS as well as the four you nominated. I also think that our Queen's Birthday match against Collingwood will be an absolute ripper next year culminating in us winning by one point when Petracca kicks a goal from outside fifty after the siren.

Would live to finish above the Pies plus humiliate them in Queens Birthday match.

I have us even with Suns but that can go either way depending on Ablett. No team relies on a player as much as them & they were pathetic when he didn't suit up last year

What about GWS? Apart their Academy selections, this year is the first year that they have been brought back to what approximates a level playing field in the draft. I think that they may well miss Trealoar and other departures and am backing us to finish ahead of them.

Adelaide have lost their best player. Crows fans seem to believe Crouch will step up to the plate but you don't replace Danger so easily. Sloane will carry a lot more of the load in 2016.

I don't think the Dogs will necessarily pick up where they left off. Talented young list but teams will be more prepared for them next season, plus they have a tougher draw.

Richmond are just plain brittle.

That's three more teams it wouldn't surprise me to see around 9-13, the same area I expect us to fall into.

Wins will be hard earned next season. The competition is evening out.

A few of us discussed  this the other night. My  thinking is we'll  win 10-13 games....all depending  on a couple of likely  lads stepping up and an even year of injury.

This being so...we could go 8th...and I'd  love to do so but reluctantly i think 9th.

Posted

a couple of injuries can cruel any side and usually does to at least one or two a year.

We should be able to beat Saints, Bombers, Bears and Carlton

Suns, Adelaide, GWS, are certainly beatable Ablett is still critical to the suns and all three sides have lost talented players.

Tigers, Collingwood and dogs we have played and had some close games and a couple of wins, so again we are a chance.

Those that we will still test us will be the hawks, dockers, eagles, port and probably Geelong.

North and Sydney could go any way.

We will certainly be more competitive next year and are in my opinion a real chance to win quite a lot more games next year.

11 wins, 11th place

Not out of the question though that everything will go CLICK and we finally see September. There is going to be another bunch of lineup changes and our young talent is very, very good, anything can happen.

8 - 11 is the range I'm working in, im still confident with our list developing and the evenness of the comp after 6th spot theres a reasonable chance to just sneak into the 8 if things go our way and player effort is consistently produced week in and week out however a couple of things need to happen:

Firstly we need to end one of these 10 year winless hoodoos against either one of stkilda, North or the dawks. 2 out of 3 is realistic

Second we need back to back wins ...early on... and then ultimately more than once - captain obvious for 8th spot , but when was the last time we did it...2011 ??? That's a serious hurdle mentally for the players and the club to overcome and believe they can compete for a top 8 spot

When I see these both ticked off by queens birthday I'll be more convinced we can land in the upper end of that 8-11 range

I really think we just need to tighten up a few things about our performance (and to have a reasonable run with injuries to key players) to get quite a few more wins.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
