sounds like there wasn't much of the house left standing, moonie

So then just for you dc...

Things I saw I didn't like:

- many tackles missed or not held onto well enough

- many short kicks that easily missed their targets or caused the target to halt momentum. Saw Turls do this on at least three occasions.

- Brayshaw sighted for only a short period of time, not sure what's going on there

- a couple who really struggled in the running excercises, eg, Frost and Kent. Although given their injuries this season that might be forgiven

- I turned around and saw Damien Barrett next to me. Most unpleasant.

Thanks for the reports - I will get more excited for them when we move into game style stuff - the running is indicative of fitness and preparedness for the season but I am more interested in Goodwin's imprimatur on the offensive side of the game.

And, Garland and TMac being there says more about those two than it does about the others NOT being there. The club manages each person individually and telling me that Player A or Player B 'should be there after last year' is simply an ignorant statement - you don't know how they are situated from a fitness perspective or what work they have already done.

...or if they were instructed not to come because of a propensity to overtrain or because they need a longer break for psychological reasons.

I think what I like about the photos that I have seen is that a number of the players in them have already proven that they can make an impact at senior level. Not a "Gysberts come in for 2 high possession games" impact, but a "Viney locking down Joel Selwood" type impact.

Other than Viney, Salem has proven he has what it takes. Tyson is my favourite player, so he only needs to fart on a footy field and I think he's fabulous. AvB should only improve. TMc is one of the best defenders in the league. Hogan, well, enough said. Brayshaw, ANB and Stretch have all shown they have the tools that, with the right development, can see them easily best 18.

Not only that, while they are only boys, they look like young men. And our "better" players aren't even back yet!

Frigging hell, off I go back to the confessional thread.

Well I wouldn't want either of the Petracca or Viney kids running at me.

I was suggesting things would not be perfect at the first session or next few for that matter.

I dunno what the worry about Brayshaw is

Maybe he is on a different program given he missed a lot of pre season last year? Maybe he is focusing on muscle gain first?

Or maybe because he played so much more than expected last year, he is on a slower starting program to protect his body.

If Saty was there we'd know why Brayshaw didn't do the full session, we'd know when Petracca is due to join the full group and why T Mac and Garland were the mature age attendees. We'd also know other stuff I'm not interested in but Saty provided information no other watcher did.

Sad he was hounded off by the selfish few.

Completely agree

He had the balls and the relationships to get the info I actually want to hear.

Anyone can go to training and tell me what they can see (not that that isn't appreciated!). Not everyone can go to training and provide inside info.

Or he might have had a headache.

I've made it a goal actually to become a journo over the last four years or so. Really focused on getting the job done and being as positive as possible. I'm quite satisfied reading posts like these :)

just one question

How the hell does one watch what's happening, dissect what's happening and write it up all at the same time...lol :) however you do it....thanks !!

Few surprises, but that's ok

Who:

Coaches - No Roos, no Goodwin as far as I could tell, so it was mainly left to Rawlings, Matthews, Allison

Fitness staff - plenty, including D Cross. And I hate to be rude but a young lady seemed to be observing and she was a solid 9 to 9.5. By far best on track.

Players - see earlier posts. But Garland, Tommy Mc, Frost Bugg Tyson (are they 4th or 5th year?) plus the 1-4 players.

Considering the players that were back training, I'd be interested to know if McCartney was there. I'd have thought he'd be a central figure at training for the younger guys only?

Thanks for the reports to all.

Didn't see him. But could've been. So many staff in red tops and hats it was hard to pick out.

The actual footy drills part of the training was all pretty simple and only made up a minor part of it. One of the coaches was encouraging fundamental skills and high work rate. Otherwise I get the feeling it was more about getting the bodies and minds warmed back up to footy. No need for any specific coaching.

Most unpleasant is an understatement, i am sure. If it was me and I turned around i reckon I would punched him in the face. Edited by felixdacat

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
