If we wanted a proper crack at finals next year, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in James Kelly or Jed Adcock for a year or two to see if they can give us some Daniel Cross-esque experience. One year from these guys is probably more use to us than another year of Terlich in the seconds.

However, it looks like Mahoney isn't interested in picking up any DFA (he said that before the recent delistings of Moore and Grant, though).

Will be interesting to see if Jamar gets a run anywhere - surely a team like Essendon could use an extra ruckman.

I think James Kelly has been so overrated for many years because he was always surrounded by quality players. He's slow and makes a lot of errors with are only going to be exacerbated as he gets older by the day. Similarly with Mathew Stokes, absolutely lucky to have been picked by Geelong. Probably would have been delisted from any other side within 3-5 years.

Yes, that annoyed me no end too. I believe he was an overrated footballer who was lucky with the team and era he played in.

Unfortunately though on the way out the door he could throw us a premiership medal, stow one up his clacker and still have one to wear around his neck.

History will remember the winners and the rest can please themselves

Elliot Kavanagh delisted by Essendrug yesterday.

Highly rated junior who never got going at that cesspool of a place! Wonder how Goodwin and Macca rate him?

I'm interested in Kavanagh. He's got a bit of pace and a bit of class. Not a lot of both but a bit. Thought he would have found a home already. Maybe there is a work ethic issue? Wouldn't be disappointed if he finds his way to us

I guess we will find out but we are somewhat hamstrung by our list at the minute - we don't have room for ND50 at the minute, let alone a DFA.

If anyone wants a DFA - we need to delist 2 players.

A chance on Kavanagh is surely worth more than M.Jones or Terlich bring.

Does anyone know why he got the arse at Dons? His stats aren't dreadful in the limited games he got this year (vested twice in 5 games)

Kavanagh was ordinary in the VFL finals. People should learn to ignore what pick players were drafted, and look at their deeds.

exactly and you only need to look at sylvia and he had a better track record than kavanagh

What does Delisted Free Agents meam? Done FA?

It's unlikely that we will take a DFA this year. As it is, we have only three spare places on the primary list with very little scope for more than one or possibly two delistings at most. On top of that, nobody stands out among the DFAs anyway.

Reading through the AFL list of delisted players I noticed Kieran Harper has been delisted at North as well as Daniel Gorringe at GCS. I haven't watched much of these guys since they were drafted, but they were decent prospects at that stage.

Harper was very promising in his early games for North. I can only assume that he can't win contested footy - Toumpas style.

The list if DFA's this year are all less valuable than Cross could have been. Given that we showed him the door I'd be very surprised if we went down this path.

None for me this year thanks.

That's a good point, there's a few DFAs I've raised an eyebrow at, but none I'd take over Cross if given the choice.

Still a little surprised we moved him on, but happy he's sticking with us. His contested marking in the back half really came into its own this year.

Notwithstanding the fact that neither M. Jones or Terlich are increasingly not in our top 22, they were at the time we drafted them and both featured prominently in our B&F for a while. I would like to see us honour their contracts as I cannot see any of the DFA waltzing into our post-draft best 22 so why bother? We may just appreciate having them there next year as automatic de listings for the next draft and let them continue to strengthen our Casey team for a tilt at the Finals in the interim. Adcock is the only DFA I would consider kicked 4 goals in his last game might provide 2 years like Cross

Love Crossy, but he was getting noticeably slower as the year went on, would have struggled next year with the new interchange cap and no sub rule.

Plus, it wasn't really contested marking so much as he was playing as a loose man. Averaged less than 1 contested mark per game.

Mahoney: “Around the delisted free agent [scenario], at this stage, I’d say it’s unlikely [we’d use this recruiting option], given we’ve already brought in three players”

Wouldn't be opposed to adding a ruckman like Gorringe as a rookie purely as a backup option, but I wouldn't like to see him take a spot on the primary list.

Dawes averaged 1.1 - go figure.

That may be the case from memory he was dangerous around goal & fleet of foot but not known as a contested ball winner which may be a problem. He's still young though.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
