Pros and cons as i see it for both

Oliver..

1. Contested ball beast, wins clearances, could easily be a Cripps or Wines type player who should have an impact right away

2. there was a knock that he might have been a bit slack early this year, he's turned that around which shows great character

3. he's certainly got some leadership potential

4. fits the direction the interchange cap is going to take the game i believe

5. finals-type player.

Parish

1. Dual All Australian, proven performer over a long period of time.

2. brilliant decision making that is damaging and opens up the game for his team

3. very good on field personality/leader

4. adds a point of difference to our midfield and adds the pace and class we seriously lack

5. a great mix of inside and outside, probably the more balanced mid of the two

both imo are going to be good players.

The last time i changed my mind a few days out from the draft on a mid who we should pick up, i switched from Ollie Wines to Toumpas.

So does that mean if i was on the Parish train for quite a long time, but now on the Oliver one, Oliver is doomed to fail and Parish become an instant star? Or is it my second chance to get it right?

We aren't going to hold you responsible DD, we all know that Neeld over stepped Viney in that decision to take Toumpas over Wines.

We all know that JT will never consult you or any other know alls from D'Land. But it's good to imagine yourself in such a position.

Fair point...sure to have been part of the discussion on who to take. Given all the talk about bringing in competitors, that for me raises the question about how much of the ability to compete against hardened grown men stems from the mental qualities as much as it does the physical attributes. Viney's is a good example, but I suppose he was nailing grown men as a 16 year old which Parish doesn't do to the same level. Is there room to draft a more outside player high up the draft nowadays? I don't know.

If Roosy gets his say on getting in the bigger bodies then that swings it in favor of Oliver.

There is definitely room to take outside players but it is probably safer to do it later in the draft.

Parish will be fine in the modern game Tony because he wins his own ball, uses it extremely well and is brilliant in close, he makes amazing decisions in a split second that open up the whole game for his team.

Oliver has alot to learn about being a footballer and Parish has to develop the body of one.

both are going to take time, but 2 years of All Australian selections and brilliant form that matches or betters anything Oliver did in the good patch he had suggests Parish is the best option to me.

As much as anyone else watching i suppose, he was dominant, the the tackles he laid looked like they seriously hurt. what he lacks in class and skill he makes up for in grunt and determination, and he's an angry lad, doesn't mind throwing his weight around and letting people know what he thinks of them it seems.

Is Parish a similar type to Scully? They appear to have similar body types at the same age. Both were elite ball getters at junior level over a couple of years. Has Parish got better skills than Scully at the same age?

He's not the only bloke to change his mind with increased research and exposure to the available talent. I've changed my mind almost on a daily basis.

I want Francis at 3 but I'm not prepared to miss on both Oliver and Parish which may happen. I'm not sold on needing 2 key forwards, few teams have them. Diversity is the key because it provides unpredictability and the ability to target opposition defences weaknesses. It's what Hawks do so well.

I'm happy with Weideman at 7 if he's a genuine 7. I don't want him just because he's tall.

People talking about Parish's lack of size; you all saw Billy Stretch a few years ago and what he has/is becoming now.. You know they don't always stay that size forever right?

Oliver or Parish at 3 don't mind.

Pick 7 Weideman or McKay don't know jack shite about either but we need another tall.

I watched Francis on his clip but he seems a bit clumsy. He his a great mark forward or back, but it is a highlight clip after all.

why cant the tall come later though ?

Neither Francis and Curnow are mids and they have are desperate for mids. They need tall forwards too, but at least one of 4 or 5 will be a genuine mid, not a mid on a hope and a prayer.

Stanton and Watson are geriatrics. The utility Goddard is old too. Cooney is a crock.

Hocking's a tagger.

Myer a scrubber.

Zaharakis has been disappointing the last two years and presents best as a high half-forward/mid.

Merrett is a quality small mid/forward. The older Brother's ordinary.

Colyer is a pygmy.

Heppell is very good and that's about it.

Parish looks a similar style to Heppell IMO ..from limited viewing of highlights.

He's a totally different player to Scully. Scully was/is a running machine, Parish is a footballer.

I wonder if the Bombers are trying to suck us into taking Weideman with 3. Worsfold today in an Age article, is hinting at them loading up on forwards in the draft. I think they want Oliver and are hoping we pass on him.

It does look like being Oliver & Weidemen now going by the tea leaves - Both skilled big bodied competitors.

Looks like it. My read is that the Dees have been hot on Oliver for some time now and nothing is going to move us off him. We'll pick him first up, with the Bombers going Francis & Parish.

Which will leave us with the Weed.

I must admit I'm a bit surprised that Oliver is the guy that we needed to get ahead of the Bombers for, but the more info that comes out about this guy the more there is to like.

Yes I know, I'm in the same boat BB. I've swayed a few times too. I like Francis and Oliver. And I'm trying to work out if we went a player at 3 that we want, will it allow us to get the other player at 7 that we also want? Ie. Francis at 3. Oliver at 7.

And I've been racking my brain lately trying to figure out what Essendon and GC will want.

Wondering if the likes of Ess & GC have done enough reconnaissance work on Oliver...

I'm really too fussed in who we choose at the moment just as long as it's two of Parish, Francis, Oliver, Weideman, Curnow and Milera. Based on our football departments drafting in recent years, I have faith they'll make a decision that'll improve the club in the same way drafting Salem, 'Gus and Petracca have.
