Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He'd be ahead of M Jones, JKH and Kent in terms of playing similar position for mine, he'd be in my best 22 next year thats for sure.

I'd have him ahead of Jones too, JKH when in form he is not ahead of, and no way is he ahead of Kent when injury-free.

I see him as a serviceable contributor, but in a couple of years we will be calling for him to be cut. Similar to the likes of Jones, Terlich, etc etc

I believe both Harmes and King have been on the rookie list for 2 years now. You can only have one 3rd year rookie, that is King. That being said, Harmes has to be cut or upgraded. I'm guessing the latter

My understand was interstate rookies could be given a 3rd year, hence King. Harmes would need to be upgraded or delisted and re-rookied.

I think??

Don't think they'd take the chance of delist and re-rookie, he was starting to show something and had a very good final game.

More interested in hearing about a 6-9 yr deal signed with Hogan.

So that leaves two places on the rookie list. You'd have to think that VandenBerg gets elevated. I would have though Harmes has shown enough to be elevated as well. So we'd be looking for 2 rookies next year. Good point suggesting rookying Hunt, so maybe only 1.

Hogan will probably sign next year, he's still with us till '17

IF White is a rookie again does this mean the Dees will be looking to pick up another defender or are the Dees going to rely on the recent defenders plus Frost. The defence will still be fragile on that basis. King will be a the rookie list for a 3rd year in 2016,what sort of development do we have? Obviously the usual …….. not much. If Hunt can manage to be injury free next year will, I am sure he will be an asset .

Looks like the coaching crew have faith in King, I hope the kid really can start to train like an AFL player in pre season this year.

He has some good skills but he really needs to start lifting his fitness levels and strength to make it.

Pretty obvious Harmes & Vanders will get an upgrade. Well deserved and well done to both...

This is brilliant news, especially for the Rookies.

Interesting to look at our recruiting options now. We've cleared six spots on the main list. Presumably two will go to Harmes and vandenBerg, so four left for FA and drafting? How many more will open up during the trade period?

There will be a few more delistings yet, so the list will again see a fairly significant change.

Whilst I'm not disappointed that we re-signed these blokes, I will be more impressed when a player who has currency on the free market chooses to stay with us.

The only blokes with currency we seem to let go are the ones we know we'll get a better return for.

Has proven true for 2 years in a row now.

Reckon we'll see Terlich paid out and probably Matt Jones gone too. The latter might be more wishful thinking on my part. Howe will go and Garland is touch and go.

The first two need to go as they are not helping us improve, simple as that. I would rather try a couple of delisted players who might make it, or draft some more youngsters.

It's obvious for Vanders, he signed a contract.

Still nothing for Harmes just yet...

Interesting how the same set of facts mean different things for different players - we love to place a narrative over everything...

Harmes was mighty impressive when given his chance and he's shown himself to be a loyal Demon who supported the club as a kid. I'm not taking things for granted but I'd be surprised if he's not re-signed soon. Delay could be contractual matters, the fact that he's on holiday or simply to do with the timing of announcing rookie upgrades.

All this 'he' 'him' - presumably you are referring to Harmes. Way way ahead of Jones and Terlich I would have thought.

Like Jones did, or Gawn or others who sign during the year

I'll add a caveat to that:

I will be impressed when we can retain blokes with market value when there is another party offering them a deal as well.

As far as I know, Jones or Gawn had entered into negotiations with us alone. There was no other third party coming forth with a concrete offer.

When another club has put an offer to a lot of our existing senior players, and maybe this is just me, they have always turned tail.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
