FAREWELL DANIEL CROSS

I liked the honesty of this interview and also the crowd reaction to Crossy in his last game. Whilst re-rookie ing him is possible (so we can help him to 250+ AFL games), I hope that the Club can pursue the option of employing him as a (playing) development coach at Casey where he can work with our young players as Shannon Byrnes has done for the last two years. Shannon was still in the best 22 at Casey and was a goal kicker in Casey's losing Final last weekend.

do you mean Re training sessions; wouldn't a rookie spot allow him to do this ?

A rookie spot would however it should not be at the expense of keeping out a good young player. You have to remember that our four rookies this year were Vanders, Harmes, White and King (two of which who were re-rookied from 2014). Which of those would you have had make way for Crossy?

If he was a playing (development) coach at Casey he would be playing every week and possibly get Casey into the Final.

Why not? If we're allowed a top-up player, he'd be worthwhile putting on the rookie list while we upgrade Michie or White. He's as fit as anyone, is a proven leader, knows our game plan, knows our coaches, knows our players etc etc etc.

Because i don't think we'll get the luxury of getting a top up player and if we did i highly doubt it would be Cross. Think they are happy with the role Cross is doing and from all the training reports been doing a fantastic job.

Agreed, I don't think the club would be willing to change that to much, if other clubs are allowed top ups I wonder if Essendon and co will come sniffing around for Cross

Cross is contracted to Melbourne in a coaching capacity. Essendon can't do [censored].

I would be all for giving him the chance to play as the top up player but we have rookies we can promote. I think Michie will get the nod.

As a rule I don't disagree with promoting rookies, but this season i want best 22 on park and results, I expect 10 wins this year, Cross helps with that I think.

As an aside I was walking through Gosch the other morning and saw a bloke belting out 1/4 laps at full pace. He was ripped and pumping them out. Crossy! Looked in amazing knick.

Further aside as I wandered up to the bridge towards the Tan hill the big fish Paul Salmon jogged passed. He is fitter now than when he played the game, Saw Simon Garlic a little further up the road.. The same. They may get calls from the Dons.

Will the AFL hold a 17-pick mini-draft so affected clubs can fill their lists? Bombers take 12, Port 2, Saints 1, Dees 1, Dogs 1. Chance.

Doubt it.

More like we'll have the opportunity to elevate a rookie immediately.

Cross back for milkshake ?

No.

He's more important in his present coaching/fitness role than playing half the year at Casey.  We don't need a 33 year old running around.

Mitch White or Wagner have great opportunities to put their hand up for an attacking back-flanker's role.

I thought that I read somewhere that only EssUndone will be rewarded for their {}#%^**+ with top up picks.  Sounds very AFLish.

If we are only allowed to elevate a rookie then that leaves us at a disadvantage to other clubs in the competition should long term injuries occur, etc...

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
