Reports are that he is weighing up his future at the Lions and could be on the move at year's end. I think we would be silly not to at least ask the question. 190cm big bodied mid who wins plenty of the footy and clearances as well.

I personally wanted him way back in the Jack Watts draft.

Apparently Zorko is not all that happy up there either but I think that's been blown out of proportion. I'd have thought Redden would fit nicely into our midfield.

I wouldn't be moving heaven and earth, but I doubt that's what it would take given he's a FA next year.

He'd be a good get. Back in 2008 we wanted to draft him with our picks in the early 30s, but Brisbane pinched him from us a few picks earlier and we wound up with Bennell

It would likely cost us a second rounder or a player and I think it'd be worth it. He is a solid midfielder, good inside ball winner and tackler. We need midfield depth and he'd add to that and be a far better option than most on our list.

Would love him. 2015 and 2016 second round picks, plus another player?

I imagine every club in Melbourne would like to add him - he's a very good player.

if purple on the footy show is correct, then they're may be changes up there... they won't want to lose players again after the last recent time. and if that rumour was correct that Rockliff is making waves amongst the players, who knows how that pans out?

Tyson has a long way to go before supporters start claiming him second best mid. I'm assuming you're basing that on last year's form? This year he's been bog ordinary in most games. Injury or not.

Viney is consistently improving year upon year and this year has been a breakout of some sorts.

Whilst I agree with you in that we're short on players with an ability to rotate through the midfield, it's also important we get the right mix of players in there with the right balance of attributes.

Redden is a contested ball winning bull who is fairly one-dimensional. We have many of those. What we lack as 'Brayshaw self' alludes to is speed, class or skill within that midfield group. And they should all be pre-requisites for midfielders we target this off-season.

Look at the gaping holes in our list. Look at the areas we struggle so badly in. We're crying out for dynamic and multi-attributed midfielders. Not more contested ball winning kings with little else to offer. Redden is exactly that.

In saying all of that, the only real positive I see out of gaining a player like Redden would be to free up someone like Bernie to either play on a wing or behind the ball on a half back flank so that we can make more use of that beautiful kick he has. The fact that he started in the square so often this year meant we weren't able to utilise that kick of his as effectively as we could. He is definitely top 3 in kicking accuracy at our club, but being under so much pressure in the middle meant he'd bang it on the boot far too often and for little return.

Look at me change my tune.

But seriously, if that was the thought behind this hypothetical move, it would at least make more sense.

I disagree.

It's not gaping. It was a couple of years ago and even last year was still pretty bad.

We win enough of the ball more often than not.

It's the possession that follows that makes the difference.

We need to start treating possessions like gold.

Contested ball winning kings with average disposal, speed and decision making definitely won't help that.

We currently run:

- 9th for contested possessions

- 18th for centre clearances

- 9th for stoppages

- 14th for clearances

The addition of Redden would - theoretically - assist the improvement of all of those.
