600k at 4 years was the reported contract. Which most thought at the time would be band two given goddard, buddy type contracts were seen as band 1 so common sense would say that it was close to the line and given we were struggling and losing another kpp to a top team, making that judgement that band 1 was a better outcome was the course of action taken

So you're quite right that i don't know for certain, but would be very surprised if we got band 1 on his contract alone

Look, they make this stuff up as they go along but the AFL gives us no favours so I am not about to assume one was given when the best team took a bloke from us for 2.4m over 4 years...

On his contract length, on his contract amount, on the fact he had been AA and finished highly in the Bluey. Cannot say the same for Leuie. Yes, I agree the AFL make the call, often to suit the club in question, but if Leuie gets band 1, so should have Silvia. It's simply ridiculous.

I have no problem with the Lions asking (though i do find it highly hypocritical, given their whingeing last year about our application). I'd be mightily pi$$ed off with the AFL though, if they were to give one to them.

But i wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they did, given the powers that be are a walking contradiction, boys club and about the most corrupt organisation there is.

Caro reckons they'll get one at the end of the first round - in other words, Caro has been told that the afl intend to grant one to them at the end of the first round and could she please write a story about it?

When was the last time a football journo broke a story that they weren't gifted by a high up within the afl or club organisation?

Fairfax investigative journos did all the leg work for the peptides stuff and Caro wrote opinion pieces, Robbo fluffed for the Bombers...

When was the last genuine news breaker?

If Lions finish last and Leuenberger goes on a massive contract, as a FA, they are entitled to pick 2 as compo same as we got 3 for Chip. If he is taken on a moderate contract, they are not entitled to that pick.

As for a PP, they are so far ahead of our position when we asked, 2 years in a row and got denied, they would have no chance under the rules.

However this is the AFL and we know how they can bend rules and do whatever they want.

For the last few years, I've though that Brisbane has a pretty good midfield group. Adding Beams and Christianson to that mix has made them stronger. PP should not happen.

Dale Thomas' rumoured contract, 4 years 2.5 mill, was pretty much the same as Frawley's and he got Band1

No way is Leuenberger getting band 1 when you take into account his age.

This is where the AFL effed up when it came to giving in to the pressure over our plight - they can't give a PP to another team ever.

Or if they ever do - good lord, that team would have had a horror stretch...

They have hamstrung themselves now and I don't care if they go 2 and 20 this year and next they are not going to get a PP.

They should be better than they are anyway. That midfield needs a coach who is half decent. Evidently, Voss and now Leppa are not that.

Get Bolton from the Hawks and they will win 8 games next year easily.

You really think not giving us a PP in 2013/14 is going to stop them giving one to another club like the Lions after one or two bad years? This is the AFL, they're almost as corrupt as the LNP.

They won't want to finish ahead of Carlton.

I suspect Brisbane would be happy with either Weitering or Schache.

Francis not so much, they lost Polec and now look like losing Aish, they won't take Francis and they need a KP.

as it seems there is little difference between Schache & Weitering??? & that carltank want a KPD, & the Lions want a KPF; it seems its just easier for those 2 clubs to meet & greet, & agree to play the game after having agreed of which team takes the KPD,,,

unfortunately the tanking at the blues has been physically taking place, shortly after mnm was given the flick pass. so the organising of games since mid season.

the planning/organising of this rebuild since this time last year, when the blues actively went after the Silvami

.....mnm's writing, was om the whiteantboard in draft form, from that time on !

According to SEN this morning, the AFL (realising they were in a huge bind with picks 1 & 2 now likely heading to Carlton) are in talks with Brisbane about giving them pick 1 as a priority pick, to ensure they get Schache.

So the possible new draft order for everyone paying attention?

Pick 1 - Brisbane (PP)

Pick 2 - Carlton

Pick 3 - Carlton (FA compo)

Pick 4 - Brisbane

Pick 5 - Brisbane (Leuenberger compo)

At this rate, our pick #6 is more likely to end up around pick #43.

So the two new pets/expansion sides come in and destroy the draft for years which affected teams such as the Dees, Saints, Dogs, and Lions and it looks like finally the AFL have seen the error in their ways, but it will only really help their old pet the Lions.

Talk about draft tampering if this is true.

And nobody will be surprised. The AFL created this mess, and the more they bend the rules the harder they make it for themselves to get out of it. The whole thing needs an overhaul.

And the most pathetic thing? In 10 years after GWS have won their premierships and fall into a heap, they will once again require AFL assistance to remain viable. The entire thing is an exercise in futility.

I fail to understand any legitimacy to any Lion priority pick.

If we couldnt get one NO ONE now has a better argument for one

Yes..the AFL make it all up on the fly....but they should be called out as cheats if this washes

And we're always the ones to be screwed by it. 9 years in the [censored] and we have to beg for crumbs while others struggle for a couple of years and get picks handed to them on a silver platter. [censored] the AFL

Yep, win our last game, jump from pick 4 to pick 6, now more likely to be pick 9 (or pick 12 in a pure draft, considering the superb Academy talent that Sydney and GWS get on a silver platter).

Will we say anything though or will we just cop it on the chin because we are the AFL's adopted red head son that they like to laud over and butt their cigarettes on

Posted

Lol, they didn't even finish last and had the same amount of wins as we had last year when we were told we were too good and had too much talent for a priority pick. Zero chance of a priority pick now if the competition was run fairly, unfortunately....

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
