Scully averaged 21.5 disposals from 21 games and Trenner 18.8 from 18 games in their first seasons.

Pretty average first seasons, IMO. Neither of them had the impact with possessions that Brayshaw has with a mere tackle.

Gus and Hogan are both up there for me in terms of impressive debut seasons but people have short memories - Trengove's first season was awesome, but I suppose a little bit overshadowed by Scully's first year.

Oh how we would love $cully playing for us now. True outside player, runs all day, starting to accumulate high possessions per game. Getting fed the ball from Jones, Vince, Viney, Brayshaw - $cully would be the perfect addition to our midfield.

That said, if it wasn't for his scum bag actions, it is fair to say that we would not have that kid running around with number 1 on his back.

Realistically, we have won out of that trade, but GW$ haven't lost either. But I can't help but feel like that little Mexican girl on the TV - "why can't we have both?"

I don't post much either: I find all the negativity a bit concerning. On Sunday night I was thinking of posting that the Grimes and Pederson injuries were obviously the fault of David Misson, as were all the other injuries according to some of the desperadoes who post their tears and fears here.

I spent Sunday afternoon and evening and most of the night in the emergency department of Box Hill Hospital with an ailment not many medicos seem to have a handle on. I was expecting the worst about my team - my team since 1958 when I was 8 - and when I dared to check the score on my iphone I nearly fell out of my seat. The guy next door had it on his ipad but it was delayed, Hawkins was lining up and missing a goal at that stage.

It felt good. Most of all I felt good for the players, those poor bastards who have done it so hard since the Daniher days. The next day I watched the replays which made my recovery extra sweet, especially when I recalled opening the bowling for Sunshine Cricket club in 1967 and being called for throwing at the same ground. I'd made 16 not out, driving sweetly through the covers, and I knew the ball I was called for was legit. I threw the next ball, the umpire let it go and I stood at the end of my run up and asked the square leg why he hadn't called that ball. That's the one I threw, I said, not the previous ball.

That's life, I guess.

GWS have lost out so far paying massive overs for a guy who has been a passenger and bit player until 6weeks ago . Hogan has given more in his short career this year than Scully has at his time at Gws imo . Scully will have an ok career if GWS remain a top 4-6 team otherwise forget it .

He's nowhere near all Australian level which he should be for the money he is receiving.

I don't think so. They both had some good games in their first season, but they weren't consistent, nor were their disposals damaging. If you look at Brayshaw, he's been damaging for the last month and he'll only get better in the second half of the year.

everyone i know who have seen both of them play, puts Petracca slightly ahead of Brayshaw. you just think of it for a moment - next year we will have both Gus and Petracca, and hopefully a fit and firing Trengove, and a matured and intimidating hogan and Gawn - it is looking very exciting

I'm feeling the warm & fuzzies that we have all been enjoying since Sunday's milestone performance, the best 120 minutes of team play that I can remember since 1987! I am now conVINCED that Bernie is the best recruit from another AFL/VFL team that I care to remember. I am also SHAW that Angus is the best first year addition I have seen in Blue & Red... Discuss

In my time, the best recruit from another club was Laurie Fowler. Carl Dietrich was outstanding in his first stint with us, Brian Wilson and Peter Moore won Brownlows and Jeff White was excellent over a long period. But in terms of value for money, Laurie is a standout. He gave us at least three seasons at the standard we are getting from Bernie this season.

And what about one particular bone crushing tackle he applied against the Cats. Ouch!!!! I bet the Geelong player thought he had been hit by a tram. Gee, this kid is going to be something indeed. Yet many are saying that Petracca is even better! Must be bloody good that's all I can say.
