Hi All - have sat on this for 6 weeks now but though with the Stretch arguments on the other page that I should bring this up. A fringe Demon player was having a [censored] to me about selection. That Goodwin is the main man in selection and he is more focused on buiding his list. He felt that the younger players were given more focus than the older ones and that he felt that he wasn't in Goodwin's plans which was a reasons behind his lack of selection.

Has anyone else heard this from their sources? Just want to confirm if it is true or not or him being a little disgruntaled. Thanks.

Sure hope he is...

I think a lot of team selections have been poor this year, not because young players are getting unwarranted games but because so many fringe players have been getting a good run.

The only reason for this I see is giving them one last chance after another pre season with Roo's and Co.

Our run with injuries hasn't helped. Once we got a few there wasn't much else to choose from.

Why do I have a strange feeling that its Jordie Mckenzie.

It might or might not occurred to this certain fringe-player that the footy world doesn't revolve around him. The FD will do what's required to better our results. It's not even personal, though he may see it that way.

It also has a Russian feel to it.

was similarly my first inclination as well.

When a club 'rebuilds' or decides to 'play the kids' fringe players will, fairly or unfairly, miss out.

Some get delisted (Cross, Chapman) and picked up by another club, some get traded (Cooney, Podsiardly) some stay on the list as depth.

Its all a natural part of every club's list management and there will be aggrieved players.

We have an unusual number of inexperienced players who need to be developed and when ready play senior games.

That is not good for the more senior players that aren't regular 22.

Player development and experience will be given priority and whether it is Roos or Goodwin it is what I would expect and want them to do.

That player sounds like another unprofessional sook. Hope he gets the chop at seasons end whoever it is.

Team selection was spot on this week btw.

My mind we selected really well down to the withdrawal of Fitz once we knew Hickey was out. And they way the young kids are playing is more impressive than some of the older counterparts who get more of the ball in the vfl. I do wonder though if we had at kildas run with injuries (eg none) if we'd have played as many players. Assume that Kent, Salem, Frost would have all not missed a game.

This player needs a good hard look in the mirror.

If you are a fringe player in the worst performing team of the decade, the odds are that the younger players are better than you.

The odds are that you have had many chances and failed to grasp them and it's probably safe to say that you are just not good enough and you should be thankful for the chances you had.

Seriously, it's not like there's been many 'fringe' players tearing it up for Casey and not being given a chance.

Why a sook, I would hope he was disgruntled. That's the attitude that impresses me

What, that he is sooking about games he hasn't deserved to get?

Someone who doesn't complain but instead works harder would be much more impressive

Jordie McKenzie

Viv Michie

Jack Grimes

Mark Jamar

Rohan Bail

Dean Terlich

Have to be the main suspects.

Matt Jones has been in the side recently while Riley & Gawn's back in so doubt it would have been either of them.

Some player's papers have been stamped. Only injuries will give them another chance and the way we are travelling I wouldn't give up yet.

I doubt that it's Michie or Grimes. Michie is still young and has had some chances, whilst Grimes doesn't strike me as the type to whinge. If the conversation occured 6 weeks ago, I'm thinking that the prime candidates are M. Jones, Jamar, McKenzie or Terlich. Out of that lot, Jamar is the only one to have some case to question selection, because he wasn't playing that bad when he got dropped, and Spencer wasn't going to offer anything better.

... &, maybe a gripe from Grimes.

this is right Dee-l', & the hangover of the old culture & the recent seasons beatings has hurt some footy psyches.

Roosy has little time to achieve the AFL's mission impossible, & hand this club over in good shape, for Goodwin to take forward. This mission, which was accepted, has no time for too much sympathy, as we were down to our last elbow patches, & chances.

last season imo, was about teaching, sorting the chaff, changing the culture & forming future plans; this season imo is about further cleaning the list, for the future club, & establishing/ingraining strong winning attitudes & re-establishing 'hope' throughout the club, & respect throughout the AFL.

..... next season I think will be about putting the show on the road, climbing the ladder & gaining upward momentum. I can see this coming 'off-season', will be our most important in a long long while.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
