We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Also needs to be noted that Bail and Jones played forward week while the two ins will pay mid and back respectively. Dropping them would require a major reshuffle. Viney for Riley is like for like.

All I can say is.. How good is it going to work on a Friday looking forward to the footy tomorrow and having genuine excitement knowing that if we bring our A game we can win tomorrow and go into the Queens Birthday clash at 4-5 with a chance to be right in the mix at the bye.. Big game tomorrow

The only thing that has been getting me through the 12 hour days I've been doing this week.

Can't wait for the game tomorrow and many many wines. Don't let me down Melbourne!

True, and we've done better having a defensive forward set up this year.

We are one of the best teams at scoring from Inside 50 entries. Given these aren't in abundance when we play, this is a very very critical stat.

We played best with Kent and JHK, and while Jones and Bail are not up to that quality, having those defensively minded roles off half back is extremely important for us.

We don't allow rebounding defenders to, well, rebound, therefore enabling us to keep the ball in our forward 50 for longer and convert a score.

As said earlier, I thinks it's becoming clear that Roos doesn't put much weight on a fourth quarter cameo by the sub. Tough for the sub who busts their guts for as much time as they get, but given they come on fresh against players who are fatigued it's hard to argue they shouldn't be judged harshly.

Agree on Roos's view but disagree on the rest. They should be judged on how they do their job. If the reward for busting your chops at Casey is a sub role, which you have absolutely zero chance of expanding into a starting role if you smash it, what's the point?

In what I hope is not a bad omen, Garry Lyon has (uncharacteristically for him) decided to tip us this week, going against the trend. Methinks he may have gotten it right for a change. Usually the only celebrity tipster to back us is Wayne Carey (who also has tipped for us this week).

These sort of comments are getting really old and boring.

Get over it.

disagree - - they are not only old and boring but I think more importantly - they are just offensive.

Just as easy to say - I don't like Bail selection in the team - he turns the ball over too much and doesn't get meaningful possessions. Critiquing a player is fine but calling a player a spud is just plain wrong.

No Ryder Trengove maybe Boak , great . Their season is on the line if we can apply and withstand the pressure in the first and have deep forward entrys like last week an upset it will be .

Not a big upset though - at $2.95 vs $1.42 and a line of 15.5 pts, it's the shortest odds we've had all year

Will be interesting to see who cross plays on, last year he totally destroyed Polec twice and it seriously restricted their run, this year that's not an issue.

I reckon we can match them on the inside

No player in this game is good enough for betting to be suspended, so it has to be another reason

Its not like a fit Ablett Jnr will be out there for either side

Actually thats usually what causes betting to be suspended and the odds are adjusted accordingly. We were 3.35 before the suspension 2.95 after it resumed. The bookies always know whats going on even if we dont.

Its also stupid. I reckon there have been one or two selection blunders this year - Mackenzie coming in and not being used to balnket Fyfe being one example but last week Roos got it spot on. People scratched their head at Fitzy, Bail and Jones coming in. But all 3 decisions turned out perfectly because all 3 played their assigned role perfectly.

Which is why all 3 have been selected this week (and perhaps why Michie has been dropped when seemingly playing ok ie not playing his assigned role). Despite Roos saying it for nearly 2 years and every player repeating like a mantra in interviews some posters do not seem to get that the key expectation is that every player does their assigned role.

Criticizing the selection of Bail and Jones (who both by the way do the other key expectation of Roos - hard gut running both ways) is essentially saying Roos is an idiot who doesn't really know what he is doing. Such criticism also suggests some people 'watch' games of football but don't realty understand what is going on.

Agreed - apparently we know better than a coach who has been doing his job for a long period time with a fair degree of success.

But I just find the labelling of players as a "spud" and the like offensive,

Jordie McKenzie is a player who has not been able to replicate his VFL form at AFL level. He doesn't find enough of the ball at AFL level and his disposal can be sketchy - that is fair and reasonable criticism - if posters don't agree that's also fine. Saying Jordie is a spud is disrespectful and offensive and says more about the poster than it does about the player.

bin, I don't agree with this atatement at all.

Being critical of a decision does not equate to thinking that person is an idiot who generally doesn't know what they are doing. It means they disagree with that decision. Roos isn't infallible. Coaches make selection errors. Not that this is necessarily one of them.

The logic of "I disagree with you, therefore you're an idiot" is what leads to a large number of the squabbles you see on here. People take way too much offense at what is essentially a difference of opinion.

I hear that M Jones and Bail are great runners blah blah blah, can't find the bail or hit a target. Might as well get Morton back, he could run too.

I'd rather players who can get and use the ball.

I hear that Gorgoroth (super band by the way) has completely missed the point.

I hate to defend the two of them but clearly them not getting the ball last week didn't hurt as much, and there is so much more to the modern game than getting your hands on the ball. They are only there temporarily anyway, and once guys like Kent and JKH are fit they will play that role better than those two can on a consistent basis. But they did the role Roos gave them last week and, for that reason, they play again this week.

Fair point.

It would have been better to say i rate Roos as a coach and i rate his ability to pick a team that gives us the best chance to win. Which is exactly what we did last week. All 3 of his left field selections paid of in spades. Fitzy thrashed Boyd, Jones negated their key play maker and Bail shut down on of their other key play makers Johansson. So they lost drive from half back and were impotent up forward.

These selections (and of course the fact those 3 played their roles to a t) were a huge factor in our win. If some can't see that then i don't rate their capacity to analyse a game of football and therefore their arguments that Bail and Jones should be dropped hold no weight in my eyes.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
