I have watched the Eagles twice this year and Gaff was a star in each game. He is now a premier midfielder (in my opinion).

I don't know his contract status but he would be a perfect addition to the Demons midfield. Bring him home to Victoria !!

hmmm. He's improving for sure after some early hype, but he isn't necessarily the big framed midfielder that Roos seems to favour, but you never know - talent is talent. We'll be in the market and I can easily see us trading away our first pick for a ready made on-baller, but the Eagles haven't really traded away players for picks recently.

Gaff is very outside and has really trouble with tags. Not sure I'd be prepared to give up what WCE want for him, and that's even assuming he is contemplating coming home. I've heard he's very happy in the West.

Scott Selwood far more gettable and a FA.

I would rather Gaff then Selwood. He is just too injury prone for my liking. While Selwood is a good inside midfielder we already have the likes of Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Vandenberg and even Salem who could all potentially play that role. What we lack big time is outside midfield class that can finish off well. He spreads so hard and creates alot of run.

If we are going for inside midfielders Dion Prestia would be my pick.

he does well, he and schuey would be fantastic 'gets' if they wanted to come home to victoria.

but i agree with another poster - scooter sellwood has to be the target. has had injuries this year, but is a very good mid who is a free agent. bringing him in won't cost us anything.

Gaff is more the player type we need than Selwood but I dont think he is the right target. His form is too inconsistent mainly because as soon as he hits form he loses it via tag. He may be too outside link man rather than line breaking class we need.

I'm hoping stretch can become the type of player gaff is

I don't think that inside midfielders are as much of a priority as they were for us a year or two ago, and while we obviously would love upgrades across all our lines I think our most glaring weakness on our list is a ruck man

Gaff, like most of his teammates, looks a star against weak opposition, and goes missing as soon as the heat comes on. No thanks,

Agree, he's the first to hop on when the going is good, but is easily tossed aside when the going gets tough. I wouldn't classify him as a culture changer/builder, he's more of a follower like Watts (fyi, not saying this is good or bad).

What we need right now are culture builder's that set the standard, like Jones does. Shiel or Prestia would be the one's i'd be going after (even though both would be just about impossible).

Not sure about Gaff but we definitely need to find a gun ready made midfielder or 2.

Also need to find ourselves a genuine ruck to replace Jamar whos pretty much cooked

leuenberger as an ufa is the best option, unless gawn and spencer can really start to show something in the last two-thirds of the year.

the biggest issue with ruckmen is that they really are either starting ruckmen or nothing - look at jacobs and maric. never got a go at carlton or tigers as starting ruckmen, and it took them going to a new club and getting the opportunity to be the #1 man - there's nothing to say that gawn, for instance, couldn't do so too.

the big issue is that when the big russian has been injured so too, more often than not, have both spencer and gawn, and similarly when he's been fit so have they, so they haven't been able to 'break' into the side.

the sub rule has effectively stopped teams playing two ruckmen in the 22. the mids rotation is just such a preferred modus operandi.

on gaff, i'd love him to be at the dees. i'd prefer schuey tho. problem is we would have to trade for either of them, whcih means that the free agent scott selwood is the winner of the trio to get in - but like most, i expect him to be at the cats in 2016.

we must get anyone who will improve our list as long as the player can find the ball, has run, has excellent disposal skills and who has grunt.

There's only about 20 players in the league who have all those tools.

I think we should focus on an outside runner like Gaff.

Toumpas isn't working out. Watts just isn't going to make it against the best. Grimes could do with a fresh start. Package them all up for whatever returns we can get and see if we can get someone to fill the role that we really need.

He's much maligned but Danyle Pearce has been great for Freo because he gives them outside run. we can't keep playing slow grinders in the spots where you need speed!

If Gaff is available I would try and get him.

James Aish, Zak Jones & Daniel Gorringe will be our targets I reckon.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
