Keath played both football and cricket at the highest level as a junior.

Played for Australia (u19) and TAC Cup, not sure if he played U18 Championship. He was drafted by Gold Coast but then chose to play cricket.

Hasn't been offered a contract wih Australian cricket and rumour has it he may look to go back to football.

23 years old but hasn't played footy for 5 years.

It would be a very poor career decision for Keath to turn his back on cricket. He may have had a disappointing season, but he has all the skills to make it as an Australian cricketer. If he must go back to state, IPL and big bash contacts down from his current Australian contract..... so be it..... he is only 23. The money is far better in cricket and your career far longer. Players don't peak until in their 30s. He just needs to tough it out, not run away the moment things get a little difficult. The fact that he is being a little dumb and more importantly failing to show the grit and determination required in his chosen sport is a blight on his personality and for this reason only he may never make it in either sport.

I am sure we would not give him the time of day.

I tend to agree with this. He hasn't done anything for Vic to show that he can't go on to play for Australia, so I'm not sure why he would. 23 is very young in cricket.

He has just lost his state contract. He never had a national contract.

And there's no suggestion that he is turning his back on cricket. Odd post.

Was it 5 or maybe 10 years ago a lot of cricketers turned to footy because the money was better. How times have changed.

Cards, I think you are right, there is a lot more money in cricket. Look at what they can make in a few months in the IPL. There would be many more millionaire cricketers than footballers

How many AFL footballers earned $4.5 million dollars last year?

12 cricketers in Australia's top earning 50 sportspeople. One footballer.

Did he lose his state contract? This all makes sense then, though it'll be a tough road back for him to even get into contention to be drafted.

I am a big Vic supporter. I was a little disappointed Alex Keath didn't get more of a go in the Shield side this season.

He got 1 game and batted well in both innings. He keeps getting referred to as an all-rounder but his bowling is ok at Premier level but I think just too slow at higher level. If he makes it it will be as a batsman.

Other people have mentioned the possibility of Big Bash and IPL contracts - the problem for Alex is that he Twenty20 cricket is not at all suited to his game. I hope he sticks with cricket as I think with Rogers and Hussey gone and Finch and Maxwell unavailable a lot of the time there will be spots in the Vics top 6.

From what I gather it’s recruiter’s having a word to him after news of his contract situation got out.

Was a very highly rated key position player when GC prelisted him as a 17 yo. Was considered top 10, if not top 5 quality if he made it to a draft.

Sounds like he’s still going to have a crack at cricket, but if he did change his mind, he could be signed as a Category B rookie under current rules, so would cost peanuts.

I get the impression that a lot of clubs may want to sign just for the novelty of having an ex-cricketer on their list. There are many better options out there. This guy hasn't played much footy in the last five years when there are guys like Vanders who are ripping it up every week in state leagues.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
