Chris Dawes

Put Dawes and Watts in the forward 50 for 22 games - and I guarantee you Watts will kick more goals, take more marks and get more disposals.

I agree that Watts will, and that's in spite of the ball being kicked to Dawes 3 times more often as it usually seems to be!

Has anyone else thought of Chris Dawes being reinvented as a key backman?

I've always been a big critic of him playing forward as he doesn't present well, doesn't mark much, hardly a goal kicker. But there's always someone to remind me that he puts on pressure, chases, tackles and all that crap that personally I don't rate a key forward on.

But with Fitzpatricks seemingly successful move down back I thought maybe they could try this with Dawes. With a backline of McDonald, Garland, Fitzpatrick it got me thinking that non of them really have the big body to take on the 'gorilla' forwards like we had when Frawley was around.

When Frost comes back he will most likely play forward, Pederson is in good form up there and we will riot if Hogan gets left out. Where does Dawes ever come back in.

Dawes is capable of at least contesting against the likes of Cloke, Roughead and Hawkins. We know he can bring the ball to ground. Then he can do all the chasing and tackling he likes.

Gotta be worth a try, otherwise he'll be a very expensive VFL forward in the last year of his contract next year and worthless at the trade table.

wouldn't mind seeing it given a chance

Hellfish: I would certainly put McDonald, Dunn and now Fitzdemon and even Garland ahead of Dawes as a big defender.

I must say given the good recent form and competitiveness of Pedersen I can't really see where Dawes will fit back in. He was sorely down on form prior to his sore calf, and IMVHO must find form at Casey before playing AFL again (regardless of his salary)! If he wants to learn new tricks he should learn them at Casey, as has Fitzy.

yes. given his lack of marking and goal kicking, one wonders why he was a forward in the first place

That just makes me have visions of James Sellar....

Dawes will play CHF at Casey until he finds form. Will be good cover if one of Hogan or Pedersen goes down at least.

Expensive depth Dazzle.

At least means at the end of 2016 we'll have a heap of cap space when we need it!

Maybe

But we shouldn't just play him because we pay him.

Dawes is depth and that's it's.

He only comes in when Pedersen or Hogan go down with injury.

I disagree DD. Dawes has the runs on the board in that he's a premiership player. There was a time when he was playing some really good footy. I mean, let's not forget how ecstatic the majority here on DL were when we recruited him.

Yes his form has not been great and hasn't been for some time now. But I just think he's got more to offer the team than just depth. Until he recaptures that form, Pedersen has proven to be an adequate replacement.

Pedersen has played two good games. He's hardly cemented his spot. Good on him and may it continue, but his default service for this club does not make him best 22. You're only as good as your last game, so on that basis he's an automatic selection for this week. Despite Dawes recent scratchy output, which his calf has not been helping, when fit he has way more runs on the board than Pedersen.

The runs on the board are now a fading memory from Pies days.

I was thinking of his MFC output. I don't watch Collingwood.

I was thinking of his MFC output. I don't watch Collingwood.

That is exactly what I mean.

How many games has he played in the last 2+ years at the MFC where you would put him in the top 5 players.

The last good game I remember was last year when we beat Adelaide that is now over a year ago.

If you are a key forward you expect someone who can mark the ball and kick goals he does little of either.

I thought I made it clear. He's played more good games than Pedersen. Simple.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
