Will it be Nathan Jones again this year?

Voting for the first round begins with the final siren.

Votes on a 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis (best gets 6 and so on to sixth best which gets 1).

We will select three sets of votes as the official Denonland votes for the round.

I ask again this year that the sample be broadened to at least five or six.

Three is too small as the middle tier players sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve in the final rankings, because their votes are missed.

I took a sample of ten in the unofficial one last year and the top five were the same, but it is the ranking of players beyond the Joneses and Tysons that I think many are interested in.

Thanks. A response to this suggestion would be appreciated. I'm yet to receive one.

6 - Tom McDonald - an absolute rock, marked everything and provided great rebound

5 - Jack Viney - wore Ablett like a glove the first 3 quarters and smashed his shoulder into the turf at every opportunity.

4 - Nathan Jones - a usual Jones game, and thats a very good thing of course

3 - Jack Watts - looks set to arrive in 2015... will end up kicking around 40 goals

2 - Jeremy Howe - he made the half backline his own. Impenetrable and unbeatable in the air

1 - Daniel Cross - the ultimate professional, just keeps going and going

Apologies - Tyson, Newton, Lumumba, Garlett, Vandenberg, Garland, Hogan

Outstanding team performance (how long is it since we've been able to say that?!) but as I'm restricted to 6 votes:

6. Tommy McDonald - Magnificent. Both solid as a rock and a great springboard.

5. Nathan Jones - Gave everything for the red and blue and led from the front, as usual.

4. Jack Watts - Right up there as one of his best games for the Dees.

3. Col Garland - Early days, but shades of the form he showed in 2013.

2. Jack Viney - Kept GAJ well under control for most of the game, and hurt him at every opportunity.

1. Jeff Garlett - the 'live-wire' small forward we have craved for years.

Too many apologies to list them here, but the Demon debutantes showed that they are likely to be around for a long time! Credit must go to the recruiting, development and coaching staff!

(Edited after watching the replay: I'd been selling Viney short.)

6- McDonald- Was a rock today, grabbed everything that came near him.

5- Garlett- If he had of kicked straight would've been best on, very lively.

4- Jones- Solid Jones-like performance.

3- Watts- So reliable with ball in hand.

2- Viney- Beat Ablett and won clearances, his career obituaries were the most premature I've ever seen.

1- Cross- was Cross, great get this guy, sets the professional standard our kids need to see on field and off.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
