why can't Vanders just be himself? Why do we have to give playes a crappy nickname, or try and align them to other plays i.e "he reminds me of..."

He is doing fine cementing/creating his own name in the game!

He reminds me of Aaron vandenBerg.

His a Good pick up, I hope his not a one season player like the rest of them.

Not yet, but you would think that is a lock to happen before seaso

Has his contract been extended yet? Surely he'll get a main list spot next year.

There's no rush to put him onto the main list. It will all depend on the number of delisting we have at the end of the year.

In theory we could keep him on the rookie list for another 2 seasons and just upgrade him when there is a long term injury. You do run the risk of nobody have a LTI. Collingwood have done this with Frost who has pretty much played all games since the start of last year but is still a rookie.

He reminds me of some guy who played in an obscure ACT competition last year. He is not there anymore. I wonder what happened to him?

He's proof that individuals can impact games off limited pre-seasons for those who continuously make excuses for sub-standard footballers on our list.

He really highlights those who have been on the list for years but who cannot perform consistently.

Vanders has some really solid attributes to his name and is only going to get better as his tank improves.

Good points about the "limited preseason excuse". And it will be interesting how he goes later in this his first season. Drive and determination play a big rôle.

VanDemon has shown enough that other clubs will offer him a long-term deal on good money. We will need to offer him a spot on the main list.

Sunday was his first game as a bonefide mid and he was exceptional.

Can we not call him VandenFyfe. His name is VandenBerg.

Why do we feel the need to slap on the name of a player who has absolutely Jack [censored] to do with the dees.

Give the guy some respect

And you think he would feel disrespected being compared to Fyfe ?

When Vanders gets a full AFL pre-season of running in, he'll be a really really valuable mid for us.

He reminds me of Dangerfield with his explosive attack on the ball and man. I reckon we'll be pleasantly surprised about how dynamic he'll be once his anaerobic capacity improves.

A really good pickup for a rookie.

What about Ivan Drago. I can just imagine him telling his opponent at the start of every match - "I will break you"

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
