Whilst not like for like, I think that if Jack can get fit, he could assume a similar role or at least occupy the place that Cross has currently in the team, Cross will probably have a season or two more in him you would expect.

Not every player has to be fleet of foot. It's the speed and confidence that the team plays with which is more important. So sure we need some line breakers and players with speed, but equally we need smart players with clean skills under pressure. I don't have any concern that Jack can contribute this to the team if fit.

I think another important thing to note is that Jack will have the best part of two years away from playing, and a lot has changed since being injured. He left a team where we heaped on a huge amount of expectation on our young 'superstars' and many cracked or didn't perform. The way the team is playing now, and the structures in place are a considerably different environment to the one he left. Jack *should* enjoy playing in a team where he isn't considered the Messiah, and that the clear message from the coaches is just to play your role in the team to the best of your ability, we have a team focused approach and we are seeing some high quality/high potential across the ground... If we have turned the corner (big if I know) after the Geelong game, Trengove can come into a team where we have Hogan Garlett, Watts and Howe up front, Brayshaw, Jones, Vince, Viney, Gawn in the middle and McDonald, Dunn, Salem and Lumumba down back, this is a vastly more balanced team than the one he played in, and the expectations from the club, fans, the media will be vastly different!

Would be a fantastic feel good story to get him back fit and healthy, and I'd love to see him and Petracca getting a game (and a win of course!) early in 2016.

I believe, from memory, that he tested at 2.97s in the SA state screening. I also think Brock McLean tested 3.01s, so I'm not sure that he could be said as having "Chris Judd like explosiveness".

As a junior, Trengove was a good all around player. But he was no line breaker, which did concern a few at the time. To say he had "excellent speed" is just an error on the Phantom Drafter's behalf.

I believe it was 2.96 over 20. Any mid under 3 seconds is considered good.

I agree his pace has never been excellent, but I disagree that it's ever been a "knock" on him.

Before his foot he was at least average pace for a midfielder. Can remember him chasing down an opponent on many occasions.

After coming back from his foot he definitely lost a couple of yards.

I might've over exaggerated comparison's to Chris Judd (speed wise). But Trengove did have good speed, he certainly wasn't slow.

It was only after a couple of seasons at MFC that he looked slow.

of course it is a big if, but we forget how good he could have been. he wasnt the quickest playe, but neither was he slow and that's the only almost criticism I had of him in his first two years, preferred him of Voldemort and Martin.

2010 he didn't look slow, he certainly didn't look slow when he tore Richmond apart that year and tackled them relentlessly. There was a reason why he was made captain, he looked like he had the traits, unfortunately injury and expectation ruined that.

I really hope he's able to come back, it would be a great credit to his character if he does. Many others would've given up a long time ago.

He hasn't played in a year and a half, has had major foot trouble which is the only reason he's still with us, people are acting as if he'll be able to walk into the 22 and star next season. The last time he was playing regularly no one was singing praises about him

Fair chance the last time he was playing 'regularly' was with an injury.

There's no doubt it's an uphill battle from here. But forgive some people for being positive and hopeful rather than writing him off.

I have no doubt he has what it takes mentally to get himself back to where he needs to be. Whether his body allows him remains to be seen, but if he gets that right I have faith.

I'm presuming that, like Morabito, it's less rather than more likely that he'll be able to return to be an afl-level player.

Hell, mature age players like Vanders who have plenty of will and grunt can be drafted and contribute immediately. Trengove has spent a long time in rehab but has been present during the entire period of the current FD and would have witnessed pretty well as much as the blokes that've been playing games.

Trengove gets his foot right, gets the power back into his legs, plays some competitive games at VFL level and he would be a clear choice in our best 22.

He is only 23, and is 6 months older than vandenBerg so has at least 7, maybe more, years left after this.

With his foot injury he will either make a full recovery or won't. If he dies he will regain the speed etc. This isn't an injury where you lose physical attributes as a result.

I hope he comes good but we haven't heard much good news lately (no news is good news?).

And he may not be a big possession winner or a clearance machine but what he is is balanced. He can win clearances, can win the goods own ball, can get it out, can tackle, does runs hard outside, does link up, does mark overhead well for his size, will finish well going forward.

Will he be our best player? No. But he does complement the other players well and due to his balance and versatility, he could be invaluable.
