No need to be insulting Seraph. And, the 'please' doesn't detract from the insult.

People around here are too quick to jump to conclusions sometimes.

If my comment was insulting then I apologise. Just stating the obvious in my eyes.

Say what? I'm lost.

Was just saying that if you would like to express your disappointment then just do it. Rather then the email you sent, why not just say:

"I have recently been informed that a substantial number of 2014 membership scarves were found in an MCG bin. I wanted to let you know I work at a primary school where those scarves could've been used to attract new young members. A missed opportunity."

Anyway, it's neither here nor there. Was just saying.

Fair enough, but I know that the club are aware of 'Bin-Gate'. I don't want to cause any further embarrassment.

well, consider the fact the club has received a few complaints re scarves in the bin

then they get your letter, omitting such information, and asking for a large number of free scarves

it wouldn't be a stretch for them to maybe be a little suspicious of your letter

now, i do think you are genuinely sincere in your offer, but it would have been better to have worded it like watchtheeyes said above

no bigee, but just saying

Does this mean a day after the Season Launch that Glenn Bartlett may face impeachment and have to resign?

Why not, we've already had tankgate, tablegate, loangate.... a little touch of dank gate, Polisgate etc...

BBO - I do believe the club has sentenced the miscreant responsible to be flogged with a cat o'nine scarves and you (given your undoubted experience) have been nominated to administer the punishment.

It is and it isn't OD... I suppose with their not so glorious off-field performances (such as this) lately, all of those molehills are accumulating and they may soon have a mountain. The other thing is that approx 1,000 scarves is not trivial if they could be used to assist the homeless and needy in some way.

It is no big deal but it's just plain dumb.

It's both wasteful and a missed opportunity to do some good.

A friend was working at the MCG last week and came across a dumpster full of 2014 MFC membership scarves. Surely they could have been given away to a charity/community instead of going to landfill.

In fact Rohan, I did just that my brother in law who doesn't speak a word of English was going from Asia to an architectural conference in Germany in the middle of a European winter. I was charged with buying him thermal underwear and threw in a Melbourne scarf. I immediately regretted this recalling Jim Stynes incident on the Metro in Paris, when some idiot asked him if he was the one that ran across the mark.

Fortunately my brother in law wasn't assailed by a toothless wobble person neanderthal, but it couls have been a close thing.

And anyway who would you give them to. Red and Blue aren't the preferred colors in the slums and sewers of the world

Kudos to the club.

They responded to my email and have arranged for me to have 300 scarves to distribute to students at my school. Thanks to Georgina for making this happen. Time to start converting the kids of East Bentleigh to the MFC.

Awesome Tough Kent.

A great example of how to take a negative and turn it into a positive.

Also - is it sad that I just looked at the wording on my 2015 scarf for the first time, after attending the bummers game?

Fantastic work Tough! I'd like to try and match that but at my school they'd only strangle each other and cause me paperwork. Well done to you!!!

Only decided to look at this thread after the fourth page, but surely we must have some nitwits in our promotion/marketing areas. To throw away any new clothing on the outset of winter is pretty stupid. What is wrong with every tramp in Melbourne sporting a MFC scarf. If we donated all clothing, including jumpers with last year's sponsors, scarves from last year, etc to Vinnies or the Salvos, it would demonstrate that we are a caring Club concerned with the homeless.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
