The AFL continues to morph into a premier league, with the top teams cherry picking who they need to keep themselves clear of the pack.

he is trending on twitter and he also took a hanger. Why do I get the awful feeling Geelong are going to get the good Mitch Clark, the injury free one. It would be just our luck.

What a [censored]. Retired my ar$e.

I have the upmost respect for people that carry on with depression but this is beyond his illness. He chose to retire and walk out on us. See any dees players tweeting tonight saying congrats?

Put money on him for the Coleman

My feeling is he was forced to leave by the AFL. Just a feeling. But there is more to this story.

But yes. He will play his best for them.

The [censored] thing is how it will get played out in the media that geelong brought the best out in him when we all knew how good he was.

Still in disbelief in what a shambles this all turned into. I think I would've preferred it if he had just gone out and said "I don't want to play for Melbourne anymore" at the end of the year rather than "retiring". Watch out for incoming "feel good footy stories"

The media narrative will continue along the lines of Geelong, Hawthorn, South having 'great cultures' - that being the reason why they attract players. In reality these clubs are firewalled from failure they have guaranteed access to finals and premierships.

I don't really care what the reason is..i just wish it was made public

because once again we have been shafted so a top side gets a gun and we are still down below sea level

Mitch Clark getting a free ride at Geelong and James Hird still coaching Essendon is really testing my fabric towards the game

I am amazed the media have accepted the Black Dog scenario...they are all happy for him...

We lose a power forward without a word being said...

Whole thing stinks.

P.S. i hope some journalists are reading these threads because it is time the real stories were given air

Brings me back to the next game against Geelong at Kardinia Park after 186. Our first goal was kicked by Clark after some fantastic solo scrambling and what ended up a miraculous goal by him. Not one team mate went up to congratulate him. Something smelled off even then.

I agree WYL. The cover ups and saving face stuff done by the AFL really pisses me off.

Maybe Hird just seen things for what they were.

Essendon fit the bill as a side that can't make ground on the top sides through the legitimacy of the competition.

I understand what James Hird has done, I'd like to have to a chat to him over a few cans actually.

Not saying it was right, it wasn't, drugs shouldn't be allowed into sport at all, but I'd love to hear Hird's thoughts on the equality of the league.

What hurts more than anything is the pathetic compensation we got for him because of his so called "depression" that magically disappeared.

No offense to Lamumba but an A grade power forward like Clark deserved a top 10 pick or a gun player.

I hate him for screwing us. He is a thankless gutless weasel and I hope he never experiences any success.

It's getting hard to follow a sport filled to the brim with so many slimy, despicable people.

I can't decide if I despise Essendon or MC more.

Just need to have a second team to follow. This can be done by going into any Target store and seeing what jumpers are on sale.

He is injury prone and who knows will probably walk out on Geelong after a couple of years and onto his fourth club.

We have Lumumbabam booshka.

But it is people like Hird who are killing the game...i have no time for psychopaths, have worked with a few over the years

James was quite happy to see his players double in size, and now he wants sympathy??

Same with Clark he pulls the Black Dog scenario so he gives himself the good chance at the "Feel Good" turnaround..

I hate the way the MFC stays quiet...it is why we have lost our once enormous power

Patience, my pets. Tonight was but a practice game. When Clark breaks down - and yes, he will break down, whether through the snap of a bone, tear of a muscle or rare venereal disease - I will be there with Internet heroics so fierce I may require a hand transplant. In the meantime, it's still March.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
