Geez....I get so sick of posters saying Howe is a one trick pony......Check his stats before you just join the groupthink.

The football dept must disagree, as he hasn't been dropped through form or injury for two bloody years.

Is he the greatest thing since sliced bread?.....No...... but I would back him rather than an 18 year old draftee

Spot on bossdog. Don't get the hate for howe. Perhaps its because he didn't commit, but whilst not a star he is solid. And to be honest I love his supposed one trick. He is the best mark in terms if screamers I have seen. Ever. And he plays for us

Any guesses on the 2 on 1million+ and the other two on 900k+. Buddy is obvious. Is GAJ on over a mil? I thought he was on a bit under?

Why is it if someone has an opinion of a player that doesn't abide to unabashed fawning then it must be 'hate'

There are those in society for whom i have feelings of hate and that I despise . Professional football players aren't generally amongst them.

I have an opinion of Howe. It's that he's overhyped and that hes simply a fairly average player with a very non-avarage capacity to take speccues but for mine i look at his ground work, his ability to provide a role, his ability as a goal kicker etc. Aerials 9/10..all the rest about 6/10

I don't hate Howe. I simply don't have a misplaced over inflated valuation of him.

I don't think the club does either otherwise I'd put it that he'd be re-signed on the money Jez thinks he's worth.

Incredible to think Scully is one of the 2 players on $1mill - and $100k for the old man that got too fat to tile roofs anymore.

Notice the million dollar man didn't get 1 Brownlow vote, despite having his supposedly best season.

Same for Watts I believe.

Ball's in our court.

More likely to stay than go.

[censored] that! No way we will budge on that surely!

If we're prepared to pay Melksham $400k pa, then $465k pa for Howe isn't exhorbitant. I'm in the camp of keeping Howe unless he was part of trade that brings a player that would be top 10 at our club. We desperately need forwards, and Howe did kick 28 goals in our annus horribilis 2013. He's a better forward option than Watts and Dawes, and with a more attacking game plan, he's capable of kicking 35-40 goals next year.

I find it interesting that when Howe decided to 'put off contract talks to season's end' he actually meant it. Like most, I assumed he already had a firm offer elsewhere and was going to walk.

As for 1.4 over 3 years, that doesn't seem too bad.

I'd offer him $450,000.00 on a 2Yr deal, take it, or F/O now...

No way would juda$' pay be included once he had to retire. Big Mike F would have made sure the integrity (term used extremely loosely) dept. signed off on Visy paying the balance of the wage and it being outside the cap. Bluebaggers then able to backdate Cripps' future mega deal to partially appear as 2015 earnings, just to get them up near the 90%.

Good point but it is unusual for a million dollar midfielder not to vote. Backs are always up against it in the Brownlow.

Player_Earnings_2014_01.jpg

To get a club-by-club distribution, just divide by 18!

under 100k = 5

100-200k = 11

200-300k = 8

300-400k = 7

400-500k = 4

>500k = 4

(figures rounded down)

I'd say we are paying '1 pay band' over for Melksham, but that's what you have to do when you are trying to assemble a team. Another way to look at it is that in one hit we have replaced the entire depth contribution from the group of NQR we've already delisted, improving on that aspect while also opening a few extra list spots for draftees. Melksham + 2 draftees is both cheaper and better than Bail + McKenzie + Riley!

That pay scale highlights why we may be a good chance to pick off a budding Star (i.e. Parker) from a club that has several high paid player leaving little for the rest.

Both Howe and Melksham are worthy of the average wage range. It's not an matter of either either

Except 400k+ is not the average wage range, it's the top 25% of the list and top half of the best 22.

$1.4mill over 3 with 4th yr option - I'd do this if I was club. It's $466k a year - probably $66k a year over the odds but he covers that in marketing value - my son loves him - one of the only reasons I can get him to watch the Dee's.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
