Players You Respect From Other Clubs

Thought id try something different. Its all fair to say we respect the likes of Nathan Jones and Daniel Cross for their genuine leadership and work ethic on and off the field for us but what about other clubs?

My two are Andrew Swallow and Gary Ablett jnr. Both very respected and humble off field i just love the way they go about their footy.

both just absolutely top blokes and not a hint of arrogance at all.

Good thread Daz.

I like Daniel Wells. Has been hit hard by injuries over his career, but love watching his silky skills. Also like watching guys who are late picks or come through the rookie system and rise to the occasion, eg, Luke Dahlhaus

Got a couple of favourites. Fyfe, Stevie J, GAJ and Hanley would be up there for me. All for their own reasons of course.

Thinking about it if GAJ didn't leave Geelong I wonder how many more premierships they could have got...

Both Wells and Swallow can get stuffed. I will never like or respect a North Melbourne player, they can all rot.

Barlow springs to mind considering his injury history and modest beginnings. Is now one of the premier midfielders in the league.

Pavlich is another. Could've gone to the club of his choice throughout his career but stuck fat.

Selwood cops a lot for the ducking and earning of free kicks but anyone who doesn't generally admire the way he plays the game needs their head read. Bravery personified.

The likes of Hodge and Riewoldt are natural leaders with the talent to match who you'd kill to have at your club.

Bomber Harvey (as an inspiration to Nathan Jones for longevity) and Nick Riewoldt (as an inspiration for Jack Watts on how to impose yourself as a forward)!

Luke Hodge, Mathew Pavlich, Scott Pendelbury, Jimmy Bartel, Gary Ablett jr, Travis Boak, Andrew Swallow

Hodge and Pavlich are the big two, hard, tough, loyal, playing in the right spirit

Its scary considering GAJ is playing career best football at the suns.

Currently GAJ, Pavlich, Mitchell, Barlow...

Past-players: I had the utmost respect for Stephen Silvagni. I remember one match 1995/96 vs Carlton at the MCG. He and Garry Lyon were both running back with the flight of the ball, Lyon trying to mark a ball that was going through for a point. The ball went through for a behind and at the last moment, Lyon stumbled and was about to crash, head first, into the goal post. Silvagni, who had been close on his tail the whole day, reached down and grabbed him by the jumper and pulled him away before he collided with the post. Silvagni's day would have been a lot easier if Lyon had KO'd himself, but he did what a sportsman should. Small act that stuck in my head.

Ablett - I always rated Carey as the best I've seen but Gary Jnr just about has him covered now

Hodge - the ultimate leader and probably the smartest footballer going around, knows how to stretch the boundaries on receiving frees and not giving them away

Pendlebury - poise and absolute awareness just a joy to watch

Priddis - hate Meth Coast but for a guy with limited ability this fella has got the best out of himself and then some, also comes from our local club

Pavlich - the definition of loyalty and also a champion bloke, Nate Jones also fits into this category

J Selwood - as others have said cops flack for diving but has a win at all costs attitude and will grab the bull by the horns when required

Sadly we passed over Stevie Johnson in the draft. Would have been very useful. I love the way Ablett goes about his work and one has to admire Fyfe for his true abilities. Nick R too is a champion player and guy. I was also a great admirer of Paul Chapman at his peak playing for Geelong. Tom $cully would easily lead the field in players I don't admire. Having said that, maybe Mitch Clark could be a rival.

Joel Selwood. Not only for his football ability, but for the huge number of girls he has bonked down my way (Geelong) who are both single and with boyfriends. Every second girl down here has a Joel Selwood story ✌️??

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
