1 Hogan - well duh

2 vandenBerg - run and hardness

3/4/5 Salem - class / Garland - as good but different to Salem / Kent - I need to see what others find obvious

6 Frost - Im a Gawn/Spencer 2 ruck kind of guy

Think we haven't missed Frost all that much as we have good depth with Garland, Dunn, Mcdonald, H etc. Having said that I would have liked to see him getting games and developing.

According to Misson, "Grimesy broke that thumb and he had an operation. He had plates and screws put in, rather than wires, so thats going to dictate that hes able to come back earlier."

Much better than the one they had on the Age website a couple of days ago. On the basis of the latest list we should have a few putting their hands up for a place in the team with a couple more not too far away.

I think the injury is a bit of a blessing for vanders. He started to look absolutely buggered at times, so a nice freshen up will do him some good.

I think VandenBerg is the real deal.

His presence, pressure and poise at AFL level after an interrupted pre-season has been amazing. Give him a couple of pre-seasons refining his craft and engine under a good development regime (as opposed to Ainsley!) will have him flourish in a Barlow like way... an great find.

For our long term growth, I think not getting multiple games into Salem and kent at the moment is the most telling. They are crucial for us going forward, far more so than Frost.

I understand what you are saying - we have seen these types before - but VDB for me thus far has shown some extreme influence on a number of occassions, what he has done is not 'flash in the pan' stuff. It might be a bit early but I reckon he's a bit of a goer. The main thing is that he plays with the hard-as-nails attitude that Jones, Vince, Brayshaw, Viney, Dawes, Dunn, McDonald, Hogan and Cross play with.. this is the attitude that takes us to the next level. We have had others in the past with the attitude but not the ability (eg Magner) but I'm thinking vandemon isn't one of these

IMO his kicking was fine during the NAB Cup and first couple of games. It then went pear-shaped.

No, that stat doesn't tell you anything.

For one, it's disposal efficiency, not kicking efficiency. So theoretically the low value could be because his handpassing is appalling.

However, as has been done to death on this site, the DE statistic is a waste of space and says very little about a player's ability to dispose of the ball.
