Awesome news. Jackson is a gem - how different this club would be if we had him in '07 instead of that [censored] Schwab.

Both Geelong and Essendon rate Macartney incredibly highly in developing players - like Stone, probably should never have been a senior coach - doesn't mean he's not a superb addition.

will be a great appointment if true

A few of us said in the George Stone thread that McCartney would be a great replacement for him

I'm way, way beyond pretending I know whether or not support staff are good appointments or not. I thought Chris Connolly and Neil Craig would be great appointments who would surely help our rookie coaches stay on the right path.

Good luck to McCartney all the same.

Fantastic news, Macca is the best bloke I have ever met.

This is a fantastic news!

His development of younger players is right up there in the best in the AFL. You have to see the likes of Libba, Macrae, Stringer, Dallhouse and so on and its pretty impressive.

The way they treated him was an absolute disgrace.

So is this confirmed or still rumour via here and news?

This will be a very good get, is it safe to say we have the best coaching panel in the AFL now we need results

No, lets leave that up to other supporters in their own time, when its becomes abundantly clear Via our on-field results.. lets not get ahead of ourselves, like we have done far too often in our pasts.

When other clubs start praising us, we can then smile with an inner satisfaction, that we are finally on the right pathway. we have shot ourselves in our feet too often, to do it yet again.

Very excited by this news. I assume he's been appointed as development coach and what a great get.

I hope the players can now understand the quality of the coaching panel, play to their abilities and move up the ladder rather than wallowing in our recent history.

Go Dees!

Im VERY happy with his signing in an assistant and development capacity. As soon as he was fired from the bullies I thought he'd be a great get - however I never thought we'd be the ones to get him. This could prove to be one of our better signings of the trade/draft period.

So how is McCartney such a good development coach if the Bulldogs players disliked him enough to get him sacked? How does that work? I'm honestly asking.

Think you'll find chook it was a lot to do with the older players and the one on one conversations with player reviews.

As a development coach he wont be required to do this

Vey good appointment for the club

The source of this information has just posted his 48th post. Are we sure that they are genuine or are they just making stuff up? I guess we will have to wait until Monday to find out!

Any chance that he could bring Tom Boyd with him while, at the same time leaving Boyd's contract with the doggies? :)

Who knows what could pop out of that treasure chest in the next few years?

Was an assistant coach at Geelong from 2000 to 2010. They did alright during that period from memory.

Hold me to it. Trust me.

Would be a good get.

Not everyone is suited for a senior coaching role but I think the way he developed the young players at the Dogs speaks volumes of his ability in that area.

I can see this potentially imploding tomorrow and a potential villain of Demonland being inducted into the ranks...
P.S. If it is on the news then Demonland villain status has been averted.

I just saw it on channel 9 news commercial during the Bond film! Went straight to Demonland.

A good get for the club if it goes ahead.

You should be watching the A League Derby. It's exciting and it's a game that Melbourne can't lose.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
