James Harmes

Fantastic attitude. Met Harmesy before the Collingwood Game. He is probably the most interesting and enthusiastic player that I have spoken to. I am confident that he could develop into a similar player to Jack Viney or Nathan Jones. Hopefully he goes out and plays a blinder on Saturday. Good luck Harmesy on your well deserved debut!

.............. he sounds bloody hard working and mature for his age.

Exactly what we need at Melbourne, and an important ingredient for long-term success. Give me those with a great work ethic ahead of the lazier types with god-given talent every day of the week.

James is good friends with my nephews, and played with them at Devon Meadows in the juniors.. He is meant to be a great kid. His old man was a tough p@#$k, not related to Wayne Harmes as far as I know. Played all his footy in the Cranbourne area, played with Lang Lang as well. Was never afraid to dish it out. I'm feeling my age when I remember playing against him!!

Good luck to the kid.

It warms the cockles of my heart to know that a young bloke who grew up supporting this club and was over the moon when drafted by them, is about to make his debut.

This kid is a fair dinkum Demon.

He'll give his all, plus some.

Best of luck, young fella.

GB for Grievous Bodily or Gus Brayshaw? :)

Either would be equally worrying....for an opponent.

I'm usually only pedantic about apostrophes but I remember him as Guy.

But you may be right about the nickname.

Biff- 'sorry, I am the apo'stroph'e Nazi.

Reading these posts makes me feel really good about the quality, as people, of our current young group.

Viney, ANB, Stretch, Brayshaw, Petracca just to name this year's debutants seem like fine young men and potential leaders. Add vdB, Viney, JKH and we have a great young core. We haven't seen Harmes on the field at AFL level and I hope he has a strong and winning debut. (Apologies to any others I may have missed).

A huge cultural change at the club.

I just saw this gem on the club website

“I’ve been doing as much extra as I can, by going and seeing the coaches and doing the ice baths and extra touch.

Preparing well for Saturday's weather??

I see that Harmes is good mates with Hogan, how many years would you like on your next contract, James?

Maybe we could see him play at least once first.

@nathan2jones thanks mate can't wait to run out next to you skip !!

Great to hear of Nathan's more mentoring side this year.

By all reports has a strong relationship with Brayshaw as well.

Love the captain :D

For anyone that has seen him live, how big is young Harmes?

Website lists him as 185cm & 78kg, but would assume he has put on a bit of size since.

Comparable to?

Probably Trenners as far as build goes. Bit less muscle, but close.

I am presuming when you mention Viney twice, you really meant Hogan in this year's debutants?

ive been hoping for a harmes debut all season now so it will be good to have a look at him

I remember reading that he lead casey for contested possessions last year and the majority of his possessions were contested (>50%). Only a handful of players in the Afl put up those kind of numbers

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
