Congrats Harmesy

For those who have watched him closely at Casey, what kind of player can we expect to see? His form has been outstanding

Hard at it mainly inside midfielder, not overly flashy or quick but finds a lot of the ball and seems to use it well, doesn't mind taking a grab.

So like Riley but with better disposal?

Very keen to see Harmes at senior level. I think he'll adapt himself well and should be chomping at the bit to get going after his performances in the seconds.

Good job Harmesy!

Medium sized mid with good pace, but capable of winning his own ball. Strong in the air and on the ground. Would imagine he'd play half forward/wing in the seniors.

Has some similar traits to Mitch Duncan.

I was trying to think who to compare him to, I think AngryAtCasey has nailed it with the Duncan comparison.

Seems to play a bit taller than his 185cm, and his overhead marking is a highlight, seen him drift deep forward and kick

a few goals at Casey.

Rookies don't generally get promoted to continue playing at Casey, so looking forward to seeing how he does against Essendrugs.

Will we have too many inexperienced first year players if he comes in, with Stretch and ANB also in the team? I think he'll take one

of their spots and play a similar role that they've been doing.

Good story...seems it will be a special day for his family as well:

Harmes says his Demons allegiance runs deep. "My two pops went for Melbourne and my mum and dad also," he said.

He says the day he pulls on the famous Melbourne jumper will be special. "It will be a proud moment for me and my family," he said.

Very happy for the kid. Must be absolutely wonderful to be drafted to an AFL side, and then play your first game. To do it with the club you grew up barracking for would make it even MORE special!

Here's to a nice, long, distinguished career in the Red & Blue! (No pressure, now! LOL)

Will Gus Rigoni present his jumper I wonder.

Im not sure they don't do that stuff anymore.. Think they just get someone from within the club to present the jumper. Which is actually bit of a shame.

Once he takes the field, I guess the obvious question will be "will the opposition players be able to stay out of Harmes' way?..." LOL

Mitch Duncan??

Either some here haven't seen Harmes play, or they haven't seen Duncan play.

Duncan has tidy skills, runs the lines well, good link up player, but runner but is a bit soft, goes when he wants to at times.

It's not how I'd describe Harmes.

I wouldn't say he's a certainty to debut yet. I can't remember who it was now, but we elevated a rookie last year under Roos on a Thursday mornning and he was just the emergency. Regardless, I think he probably will debut and look forward to it.

He sounds like another Roos-type player. Not flashy but a good role player who goes hard. Stretch and ANB have been welcome additions, I hope he can impact the same way.

Really pleased for him. It seems from all reports that he's gone up a gear in the last month or two, so it's a great reward.

Hopefully he gets picked now. Can't imagine what it would be like to pull on a MFC jumper as a life long fan.

Said similar type player, not a carbon copy.

Duncan's skills are better then Harmes no doubt. However Harmes has shown at Casey his ability to back himself and break the lines and link up to move the ball forward, he has good pace, without being electric. Also has an ability to play as an inside mid which he's done the last few weeks, but can also play outside like he did earlier on in the VFL season when all of Riley, McKenzie, Michie, Neal-Bullen were still in the team. I put Duncan in that same category of being able to play inside or outside equally as comfortably.

I've watched Harmes live a number of times over the last two years including just last saturday.

Good stuff.

Some notes from Harmes' draft year:

James Harmes
Club: Dandenong Stingrays
D.O.B.: 5.10.95
Height: 185cm
Weight: 78kg

Medium midfielder with good game sense and versatility. Attacks the ball aggressively and has a hard edge. Averaging 20.5 disposals for the Dandenong Stingrays this year in the TAC Cup & played two games for Vic Country, averaging 16.5 disposals in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Totally different type of player to Riley. Harmes seems to have a better skillset than Riley. His overhead marking is a standout, and can kick a goal. Riley is all grunt and not much else.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
