The co-skipper was well below his best whether in the middle or in defence and will be looking to have a better season in 2015.

Was one of the brightest young talents coming through the competition until he became captain and changed over to 31.

Has gone down hill ever since then.

No longer has much faith in this Captain as i have in the past, which says more about him than me.

Club may feel same way. He hasn't featured/mentioned in any dispatches on MFC website since before EOS: B&F, unveiling of Stynes statue, 2015 (co)captaincy discussion, new contract talks have all been with Jones.

Admittedly Jones won B&F and our MVP and Grimes might be on holidays but makes me wonder if he seriously falls into the 'anyone is tradeable' category and had a poor EOS review -he ranked relatively low in B&F especially for a co-cap.

I was very disappointed in Frank's season predominately as I expected him to come on so much.

He's a ripping kid and I still have high hopes but feel the captaincy and 31 has placed to much unnecessary pressure on a kid still finding his way in the AFL.

I don't know the effect it will have on him if loses the captaincy where it could shatter him completely or get him back on track. It's a shame Trenners didn't play this year as we might have some scope.

If were to pick up a Harry O (no idea what name he goes by now) or a Malceski he might find himself on thin ice.

Cops way too much shite.

1 Highlight per season

Has to do a lot more if he wants to hold up the Grail.

His disposal is woeful far too often

Free kick to the opposition.

Would be a great player if he could kick.

Can't question his courage, dedication, perseverance and attitude

Amazing that a year in which he played more games than any other, bar 2012, his form dropped off so significantly. Usually players go better when their bodies hold up and they can string games together.

Like Garland, he is a much better player than he showed this year and I have high hopes that he can recapture his 2012 form. I wouldn't be upset if he gave up the captaincy and concentrated on his football.

Would it doing any harm to relieve him of the captaincy? just get back to playing good football. I have no doubt he has the ability. Would rather a very good player than an average co-captain.

Might not be possible when Nathan Jones has justed posted on the Club website how much he enjoys sharing the captaincy with Grimes.

Not sure what else he can say when asked however. Even if he didn't feel that way it wouldn't be the best look if he said that

I still always think we are a better team with Grimesy in the side.

Seems to get too single minded when given a roll though. Doesn't tend to elaborate or play on instinct when he is given a job. Needs to get a bit more creative.

he's a good average player, nothing more / nothing less. he'll do some good things, and then one howler awful thing that makes you just throw yr head back then bury it in your hands. think broadbent from port, lumumba from (us?), etc. etc.

fills a role, but no superstar. i still think he has leadership qualities, but of course he as well as trengove should never have been made a captain/

If that were the case I expect he'd have has his captain duties relinquished when Trengove did.

Does anyone get the feeling that Grimes is preparing himself (and us) to be traded or loose the co-cap. The latest stories are quite revealing:

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-09-23/grimes-frustrated-by-his-2014-season where he talks about his poor year as a player and leader.

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-09-24/id-love-frawley-to-stay-grimes where he talks about everyone (including himself) being tradeable. Can't help but think that the way he talks about Frawley's application and leadership is with a bit of a 'forked-tongue'! Here he again talks about some lapses in leadership (his included). (Maybe the leaders also got a spray from Roos for letting the Mad Monday fiasco happen!)

Given his (coach voted) poor performance in the B&F and lack of on-field leadership I wouldn't be surprised if Grimes was traded or not co-cap next year. The top 5 B&F winners had great playing seasons. But no-one stood up and marshalled the troops on-field. I'm not talking about match winning performances. I mean being able to calm nerves, manage the tempo, keep players focused, keep players to team rules etc etc.

While we may not get him, we need a Danger type to be our on-field General. Current players with the potential (Viney, Tyson, Salem) are a few years away from this and they need a seriously good leader to learn from. Note: I think Jones does a great job but he also needs someone to teach him game day leadership.

I am less worried about Grimes having a down season than other players on our list. He is a quality person, and works hard on his football. 2014 was a down year, but he has room to grow and improve and Grimes has the right head on his shoulders to make sure that happens.

Don't worry about Grimes, he is a keeper. He will bounce back.

I would like to see him in a Ryan Crowley type role. This will best suit his talents IMO. As a defender he does not insipe confidence anymore. Aside from questionable disposal, he lacks the quickness of thinking to generate offensive elan from half back. And he is ceratinly not a forward or midfielder..

Grimes needs to gain some size and core strength Cannot win contests and looks weak at the ball too easily moved

I hope, if we keep him, he has a good preseason and works on his body

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
