Another casualty in attempts to lure Frawley and Waite on lucrative packages could be popular utility Matt deBoer.

DeBoer, 24, has been linked with a switch to Carlton.

He has only been offered a one-year extension at Fremantle on a reduced salary for next season.

http://m.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/fremantle-offers-james-frawley-3-million-fiveyear-deal-carlton-forward-jarrad-waite-also-on-radar/story-fni5f6su-1227061568883?nk=cdce48bd37eddfad97c9e037a160a1f1

Will be interesting to see whether he or any other players get shaken from the tree with Freo throwing money at Frawley and Waite (!). Would take him in a heartbeat at the Demons wonder what he might cost us? Shouldn't be too much as they obviously will struggle cap-wise but not sure what we could really offer maybe a 3rd round pick (if not used on Stretch)?

Obviously should add there's nothing suggesting he's coming to us but he may be on the market so thought I'd get people's thoughts on him.

Could we potentially steal him for as little as Evans & a 4th round pick???

I'm probably dreaming.

Evans ??? Are you kidding me - the bloke is a list clogger on the worst list in the AFL - Pay him out his contact and bye bye

God I hate this term.

Pedersen was a list clogger.

Jetta was a list clogger.

I was thinking more a straight swap for Toumpas or Blease and a pick if they want either of those guys.

EVERYONE IS LINKED TO CARLTON!!!! LITERALLY

If Carlton are in the race for everyone, then surely that means they have to let some players go. Yes Robinson and Garlett, but are they prepared to trade anyone with value? Carlton could well be a tree worth shaking, see what comes loose. Obviously after we've finished smashing the Adelaide tree......

Why does everyone want to trade Toumpas?

In a club like Hawthorn, he may have been lucky to get one senior game and have been developing in the magoos. Unfortunately we have to push him forward because our cupboards are so bare. If we kept him and developed him, I wonder if that is better than trading him off for less value than he can offer us. Let's get serious, there is half a list I would get rid of before this kid.

I'm mostly with you buck, but I think the group-think is that you have to put someone with currency up. Toumpas has only had two seasons and was a top 5 pick. I think he may still come good, but he may not get the chance at Melbourne.

Unfortunately Toumpas is not overly happy being in Vic so would like a return to SA. Always the danger of a young kid going interstate to an underperforming club!

Not the type of player we need.

Pace and foot skills would be right up there in the attributes we need to improve the team.

DeBoer is a tough little goer, but his weaknesses are these exact two attributes - pace and foot skills.

I don't believe he would add a different dimension to our midfield mix.

I like him, no superstar but does a job & doesn't waste it.

He does waste it and that's why I think we won't get him. I like him but he's a foot soldier. We need good users of the footy.

I am a de Boer fan. A work horse whose disposal is clean without being penetrating. He is something a lot of Melbourne players are not - effective. Whether closing someone down, or providing reliability across half back he is a role player. His pace is a concern but has not held him back from being effective in his career. Yes for mine, unless other better options present.

De Boer is a great worker and played a role similar to Bail as a defensive forward for Ross Lyon. Has fallen out of favour this year and been overtaken by Crozier. Will do a job but lacks good disposal skills.

It might've helped if he was fit and playing good footy for said under performing club.

I don't necessarily want to get rid of him but he is a player that should still have currency (albeit less than what we drafted him for) and as you mentioned is still developing so if we can trade him for a ready-to-go mid-20's player then it would be a win for us as we need players who can impact now not in 4 years - not to mention the fact there is no certainty he will come on so if we are trading for an established player it takes the risk out of it even if the long-term reward may be less. I wouldn't force him out the door but he can definitely be used as tradebait.

To be honest I don't know too much about De Boer, I know he's a Freo regular and goes hard but couldn't speak with certainty on his skills/effectiveness. I noticed the article mentioning he could get squeezed out of Freo and considering his age I think we would find a spot in our team for him if he wanted to come, I wouldn't be throwing stupid money at him or too much back to Freo but just thought it was worth discussing.

I thought the British Slaughtered them all in 1892 but this one survived so take him.

I thought the British Slaughtered them all in 1892 but this one survived so take him.

One community, led by a farmer named Wil, managed to escape the camps and lived a roving, rough life on the plains.

They were known as the Wil de boers.

There are actually a lot of cousins-related communities that emigrated. Out near Bega in NSW they formed a community of fishing family, specialising in shipping filleted fish to the Sydney market. They were called the De Boners.

On a more serious note, I'd love to get De Boer by trade, and De Goey in the draft.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
